Any word on southern Maine?
 

Heading for my usual 2 weeks. I surf cast plugs, live eels, chunk, and fly fish. I love it all. Last year was my slowest in 26. Any word of how the bite is from shore? Thank you for any insight.

I got two schoolies in Portland at an UDL last week when I was up there for a conference...

I know of firsthand knowledge of three high 40" fish out on tanta that would have been governer's cup winners except they were released because they were in federal waters and taken on 130s.

Unheard of for maine.

Although I've been told I talk too much and this might be secret information even though no one here fishes on tanta.

No direct intel but I've heard that the squid have made it there. I imagine the schools of stripers are not far behind.

try the york area.

I'm working on Kittery Point. The squid are most certainly there. The docks are covered in ink and there are signs stating how displeased the marinas are. As for the bass, I'm not sure.

My gut says they are.

Webhannet boatyard in wells harbor usually knows what might be happening.

The fishing has been good around the base in Kittery......lots of bait in the water.

Thank you for the info. I'm fishing from Kennebunk to the Piscataqua. No boat. Love fishing the outgoing tidal rivers but so do a lot of people, so i go a couple of hours before dawn on the right tide. Can't wait to smell the ocean again. (I'm way over here in Vermont, where the streams are very low and warm). Thanks again.

It's been a slow bite ever since the monsoon hit in June. Bait is everywhere. People are catching fish. Not all people, not everywhere, but there are nights when the stories are as long as the fish. I've been concentrating on my own waters up near Freeport and it's so slow there's almost no point in going (don' tell my wife). I did hit it large one night in Wells back in May but like I said, since the monsoon, everything changed back to the last 5-yr norm.

Best bait is clams. Plugs needles ,swimmers an poppers with rattles. Pencils work good slow after dark. Ya gotta move to find them an it's slow. Rock piles have a few bigger fish but it's slow all over.The rain killed our season again. Too much with too many big rivers dumpin into the gulf of Maine.In a boat move a lot an look for bait an current mixin. Driftin snakes is a good bet but you need to move to find the fish. Ron

Ron... dinks at your out of the way spot you told me about.... I could see some big girls falling to a chunk or eel in there after dark....

That's a spot that I fish late and on the ist half of the change either way. When the bigger bait is there well you saw it so you know what I'm saying. Glad you found it Ron

Yeah, I was there dawn, @ top of the tide... small bait, small fish.... good structure... need a standup road for a big fish with the junk around though....

Next time your up here bring your corkers an a 10ft or better rod. I'll show you a couple of my rockpiles that I fish. Pencils,needles,metal lips along with snake hooks incase.Jigs are hard to use due to the way the rocks run. Tight lines Ron
