Garden Cherry Hot Peppers not hot??

Anyone know why my cherry hot peppers didn't come out "hot?" I tried both the green ones and let them get red and they're more "sour" than hot. Weird.

Otherwise, 24 pickling cukes, 2 huge heads of brocc and countless green beans....nice year. Now just need the MONSTER tomatoes to turn red...probably while I'm on vacation!!

YOU CAN PUT THE TOMATOES INA PAPER BAG WITH A SLICED APPLE AND THE RELEASED ETHLYN gas will ripen them

as for the peppers ...i thought they got hot when ya dried them

They're as hot as they will ever get. There are hot cherry peppers and there are mild ones.

Yup Well said, we use all the time at restaurants, more of a sweet heat.

Next year grow ghost chilis if you want something hot. They are insane.

Cherry peppers can be all over the place in heat. Sometimes "sweet red" , sometimes a little hot. One time my friend grew a batch that looked like perfect sweet red cherry peppers that were the peppers from hell when you bit into them. Thought I was going to need the rescue squad as they took my breath away.

Next year you could plant the same seeds in the same area and get differen results. If you want to be sure to get hort peppers , plant a different variety like jalapenos.

Well I was hoping to get the cherry hots and stuff them with mozzarella and prusiuto but they aren't good at all. They were bought as short plants and it said "cherry hot". Guess they lied. Bastages!!

I am not sure on the some hot some not with cherries but I can agree with Saltheart when it comes to the varied hotness within the same variety. Conditions can effect this from plant to plant, year to year, etc. I think weather, soil and water variations have a big impact on the taste of any veggie.

Luckily these ended up up but not that hot because I have them coming out my ears!

This is just todays haul....:smash:

banana peel also in paper bag will turn tomatoes red because of the gas.all banana distributors have all green bananas so when stores order them they gas them to turn yellow.

I use ghost chilies to make the sauce for my suicide six wing challenge at my resturant...this stuff is nothing to play with..the challenge has been completed about 8 times and attempted ALOT of times...I've seen this bring grow men into tears.

I heard of the apple but didn't know about the banana.

Thanks

Well, got home from 4 days at the cape. Had a great looking cherry hot nice and red. Cut it up and sour as could be and not even warm. 6 plants got ripped out and a fifth crop of beans went in. Picked 4 heads of broccoli, a big colander of wax beans, a dozen cherry tomatoes and a nice red tomatoe and another 8 pickling cukes. Great year! Pickling more tonight. That will make 9 quart jars
