Story and video was on Boston ch4 last night news.

It will only be a matter of time before they work their way up the coast, and then the fun will really begin.....
Imagine being followed by one of those monsters in your kayak? Or having to compete with the seals AND the juvenile whites for your stripers? They should do as extensive a study of Atlantic whites as they do the Pacific whites to see where they migrate to and from. Of course the only problem with any good fish research is that there will be people (and countries) that will exploit the fish when they know where they can be located. Remember that there are plenty of countries that fish off our shores that look at great whites as a big "one-time" payday. They have speculated that the average lifespan of a great white is around 25-30 years (in the wild). The studies done off the CA coast have been following at least one male that is at least that old, since they've been tracking him since 1985! If you want to learn a bit more than the typical "air-jaws" factiods about these creatures and their habits, check out "The Great White Highway" on Discovery this week. They tracked tagged sharks from CA to HI and back and forth and in between! |
I wanna tow a seal decoy off chatham, and create air jaws cape cod.
|
I saw a report that the GW tagging team shown on TV (Discovery?) that hooks the GW then pulls them onto a hydraulic platform boatside is/might come to the Cape to start their own study?

Wait till the Orca's show up in numbers......................

There was one spotted off gloucester a few weeks ago.

There have been two sightings in the past week in CC bay. One was confirmed as a white shark - 6 miles off of Barnstable Harbor. There's a link to it the video in the "shark week" thread I think WP Mafia put it up. The other was 3 miles off of Sandwich town beach. This one was supposedly a basking shark. I've seen them in that area before.
I live about 2 miles north of Sandwich town beach and we had a small (10-12 footer) basking shark up on the sand bar a few years back. We were able to walk out to it and touch it while it cruised by in about 4' of water. |
Basking sharks are very common in CCB, and apparently porbeagles are in the winter. I wouldn't read to much into one solitary white there. Remember, a few years back, one spent a few days swimming around a small tidal pond on the back side of Naushon. It's a big ocean, and fish swim all over it.

Saw one 10 yards off the back of my yak about lil more than a month ago. I might have to rethink some of my strategies as I like to fish when they like to feed.

Edit: NM, she's at the state pier. |
Vineyardblues and I looked all day for it yesterday in the Bay. No dice. I couldn't convince Pete to jump in for a swim though even is it was friggin hotter than Hades out there yesterday. He seems to make way more intelligent decisions since he gave up beer drinkin. Boring.

Nice pics. Must suck towing that from Utah.
