Pencil Poppers with Flat bottom/canal special style on the beach?
Would canal special stylized pencil poppers work on the beaches while surf fishing? Just wondering that if anyone here has caught anything on it before or share some inputs.

Yep. And good.

They work fine, depending on the maker they way be weighted a bit heavy so you have to work them a bit quicker but they do work.
|
They work everywhere.
|
Love em at my local beaches!

I used left hooks pilgrims on the beach. You just have to work them a little faster without moving water.

I use yellow/white M+Ds canal specials everywhere...
|
Alright, I couldn't catch them last time, but after reading your answers, I will work them faster.

lex is sort of an nj staple, and they are all canal style. any flat style works well on the beach

Yup,
Personal best from Cutty this year, on a flat bottomed pencil. |
Work for me.

I totally agree that they work, but I have quite a few that sink faster than I would like without current keeping it up. Although going faster keeps it up, I still find its a little too fast.
So as long as you know your plugs, don't go out and buy something special for the beach. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
Mikey does a great job with them on the beach and since the baby came I heard they're for sale... Cheap!! Ha ha! Congrats on the tax deduction. Hope all r well

Thanks Matty! Alright Joe. Here is how I work them off the beach in little to no current. Cast out like you want to hit Europe. Work the end of the cast (before it hits the water, you want the line tight). Upon touchdown, a few quick jerks as soon as it hits the water to impart action. Then pause, and slow it way down to a steady jerk off retrieve, with a few pauses every 5 or so jerks to get em off. A guy named Dave Manzi (AKA BassMasster) taught me all about this and more on the beaches of PTown about 12 years ago. I'll never forget that guy. Ever! All jokes aside, that's how you do it.

I was strictly using rubbers and tossing clams before that for years.:jump1:

Ditto. I have been a bit of lazy to buy new regular plugs and want to see if I can use what I have currently to land a bass on the beach or not. Thanks, Mikey!!
