Kraft Calls Brady Best Ever.....
at first i'm like- yeah right, what's he supposed to say.......
he's deeply in that conversation 9 div champs in 10 years, 5 sb's in 10 years ( 3 wins- could eeeaaasssiillyyy be 5 ), 2 mvp's. as a 6th round pick he told kraft that he was the best draft pick they ever made. man were going to miss him when he's gone. thankfully i think he has 5 good years left. ( barring injury) |
Still premature. He's one of the greats, but has to do more to clearly claim that title...like win 2 of the next 3 super bowls to surpass Montana..which isn't likely.

Superbowl wins are more a measure of a team than a measure of an individual? Though Montana was one of the greatest QB's ever ( in my opinion number 2 behind Brady) Montana had a the benefit of a consistent group to work with from one season to the next (Roger Craig, Ronnie Lott, the best receiver ever every season in Jerry Rice among others) Brady has had to adapt each and every season to a new group of team mates and in particular...receivers!! Most impressive part about Brady is no matter who is on the other end of the ball.....he finds them! He spreads the ball around to more receivers every game than any other QB has ever had to!!!

Dan Marino won zero Superbowls and he is my number 3 QB all time!!
|
marino had the quickest release i've ever seen- but he's still a #^^^^& :).

Kraft is entitled to his opinion for sure.
The 2 of them are definitely 1 and 2 Both played in really different time periods, having Jerry Rice the best wide receiver ever gave Joe an advantage bigtime. Sure the 2 losses hurt Brady, but they got there, and last year they would not have gotten there if it were not for Sterling Moore and also a bad kick. I am not saying who is one and who is two, because Brady is not done with playing yet. He sure is making a good case going up against his idol. |
You can't make fair comparisons because the nature of the game, and the rules, have changed since guys like Unitas and Starr were playing.
Let's face it, a 7 yard dump to Welker, which gets turned into a 25 yard gain due to Welker's special skills, is different than hitting Raymond Berry or Boyd Dowler 40 yards downfield on a post pattern with Bob Lily breathing down your neck. Which is nothing against Brady's ability to throw the long ball, but in the old days the long ball was the primary passing weapon. It's why you see low QB ratings when you retro-apply the formula to the old guard. Montana benefitted from Walsh's innovative "West Coast" offense. In the old days you could jam a WR all the way downfield until the ball was in flight, too. Receivers have an easier time getting open today. Even with nickel and dime defensive packages. In the old days the tight end was a lead footed moose used primarily as a blocker, and a dump-off guy. Downfield threats like John Mackey were rare. Today's tight ends can run 4.6 40s, block like a guard, and break tackles like Jim Brown. Hell, the debate over whether TB or P. Manning is the best of this era isn't even settled yet. In most areas of the country, at least. :D |

ronnnie- after all these years we wouldn't have it any other way :)

Expanding on Mike P's point should there be something said about the QBs from the 60s and 70s who actually called their own game.

Exactly why it's a crime Kenny Stabler is not in the hall of fame ! Different game, different rules ! All he did was win ! |

Everyone has a mission in life. Ken Stablers was to serve as a bad example. :)
He was a great player though! |

Along with the fact that he played for Al Davis |

I think between Joe Montana & Joe Theisman they have 9-10 wives ! Lots of players are bad examples. Probably the best football player in my lifetime (besides Jerry Rice) was Lawrence Taylor ! |
