Question for any plumbers here
 

Most towns plumbing drain pitch code is 1/4 inch per foot, or 1 inch for every 4 feet.
What does that equate to in degrees ?
I'm not necessarily looking for plumbing code but trying to figure out inch pitch per 4 ft = degrees.

You mean the angle of the dangle?

sines, cosines, hypotenuse, left leg, right leg, must add to 180d, etc.:confused:

The angle will increase with the length of the run.

In a triangle the 1 inch would be the opposite side and the 4 feet (48 inches) would be the adjacent side so you would use a tangent function (opposite/adjacent). Bill L's 1.193 is corect to 3 places.

BTW , why does the angle have meaning to you?

Getting ready to rip up the deck in my boat because the scuppers & deck are too low. (wet deck)
15 ft span I have 4 inches drop for pitch so water runs to stern.
Going to raise deck and loose a bit of the pitch
Trying to determine how many degrees I have now and how many I want as it sits in the water now.
Want to raise scuppers 5 inches
Tired of a wet deck and having to wear boots everyday !

You are better off using rise and run. Raising the pitch from 1 in 48 to 2 in 48 (twice the pitch) just changes the angle by about a degree. I doubt you can measure an angle difference that low accurately but you can certainly tell the difference between 1 inch in 48 and 2 inches in 48.

In plumbing the pitch has to be controlled so you know what size pipe for what length of run to prevent siphoning the traps. On your boat I think you can do whatever you want within reason.
