Ship "Bounty" Just Sank

Just read that the tall ship "Bounty" just sank off North Carolina. 2 people missing, 14 saved.

Slipknot 10-29-2012 03:59 PM

:( wow that sucks

I hope they find the others soon

thefishingfreak 10-29-2012 04:46 PM

Not a very bright captain or crew to follow his dumbass for that matter. Should have had a mutiny!
14 rescued, 2 missing from tall ship off NC

If I were the Coast Guard, I'd be pretty pissed off about the whole thing. Great job once again by the USCG saving at least 14 of them.

ProfessorM 10-29-2012 05:27 PM

What a shame I was watching it go thru the canal last week or so, really cool I was thinking.

Ian 10-29-2012 06:42 PM

They left CT and were headed south to try to beat the storm to a safer port. Didn't work out I guess

JohnR 10-29-2012 06:50 PM

Gross negligence - should have moved north to ride out the storm

Hard to fathom why the Captain did not make port well ahead of the storm...

He should be made to walk the plank or be keel-hauled multiple times
in shark infested waters!

nightfighter 10-29-2012 07:03 PM

He is missing at sea.....

Piscator 10-29-2012 07:47 PM

I was on it with my daughter 2 years ago in Plymouth Harbor. Beautiful Vessel.

Nebe 10-29-2012 09:48 PM

There will be a movie about this. Wait and see.

Have they recovered the captain? The other missing crew member was recovered hadn't heard any word on the captain as of yet?

My wife and I were on it for a wine and cheese fund raiser last summer and it was an amazing ship. They (the crew) had all of us work with them to haul the sails and secure the rigging. Very cool trip, but never realized how much work and how physical it was. Nice sunset cruise from Fall River south towards Newport and back.

Swimmer 10-30-2012 10:46 AM

I heard on the news it was taking on water and the crew was had abandoned the ship to the liferafts yesterday morning and was just such an emotional, "what a shame moment".

BigFish 10-30-2012 11:46 AM

Fishchick and I saw her in dry dock in Boothbay Harbor Maine about 9-10 years ago when she was undergoing renovation......absolutely beautiful ship! Such a shame! Great movie as well Mutiny on the Bounty!

MAKAI 10-30-2012 12:07 PM

Somebody made a bad decision to go to sea.

I wonder how deep she is and if they can raise her?

here two of her when the tall ships were in Newport this past July ><><

PaulS 10-31-2012 08:39 AM

Wasn't she the HMS "Rose" b/f being purchased? Use to be berthed in bridgeport ct.

Mr. Sandman 10-31-2012 08:51 AM

wasn't that boat just built for the movies?....I think it is a replica of sorts...

The capt is probably better off dead. If he was alive they would hang him. Incredibly bad decision.

bassballer 10-31-2012 11:30 AM

Met some of the crew this summer while the boat was in Newport. Good people.

Never met the capt, but looks like he goes down with his vessel.

Piscator 10-31-2012 11:45 AM

Some video of the rescue.........
1 crew member died and the Capt. still missing. Ship was 90 miles off Hatteras so most likely in some deep water.

Wasn't the captain a woman?
