Van Staal at Dicks??

1 Attachment(s)
I was in #^&#^&#^&#^&s Sporting Goods last night in Dartmouth and in the case with the fishing reel there was a Van Staal 150. It didn't seem like a normal VS. It looked like it was powder coated. Are these the same quality as one from a tackle shop? Or are they selling out to big box stores?

Not the same as a VS 150 but still a great reel for the money a guide I know on cape handles tuna with them. I honestly don't know how they would hold up to dunking.

Not too bad, I used it at cutty this summer got it wet but didn't dunk it alot worked fine, cleaned up nice, but to be honest from the surf I ended up using my green 704 just cause.

Unless you have gift cards to kill - I'd get one from a local shop. Also if you need a dunker I'd get something better and if you don't maybe save some bucks and get two others :hee:

WESTPORTMAFIA 12-17-2012 08:10 AM

It's more of a boat reel. I have one and used it this season. Very smooth reel.

I was looking to pick up the VM 150 for kayak fishing, based on Westportmafia's recommendation. If I buy one, it will be at a local shop since they won't be any cheaper at a big box store due to the VS pricing structure.

VM150 Spinning Reel

#^&#^&#^&#^&s didn't put out a video to promote and educate VS reels.

This is a no brainer folks.

How is SWE shady? I have been doing business with them for a very long time and have never heard them described as anything other than professionals. If you are going to knock them ,you might as well say why.

VS at #^&#^&#^&#^&'s, next it will be BJ's :rotf2:

big jay 12-17-2012 06:59 PM

Great reel. Not totally dunkable like the regular VS, but great for the boat when it's just spray.

I'm getting one for this season. And I'll be picking it up at SWE - they've been nothing but solid to me and everyone else I know.

To be honest, nothing you could say that would change my opinion of the Edge.I just think it is a cheap shot when you don't back it up.But you are certainly entitled to your opinion.Do you think bashing them for no apparent reason hurts their reputation when you refuse to say why?

its a long story, buts its a good one, and simply goes to show how much customer service is important in an industry like this where word of mouth is king. One bad experience and your reputation can be destroyed in certain peoples eyes

Chris read my post. Been there and done that. I have said why before. It's not a cheap shot at all. As far as bashing them I think you may be being a drama queen. And without question YES it does. Again call me and I'll fill you in.

Honestly Ed, without getting into specifics I will let your body of work speak for itself and allow those with limited intellect to figure it out.

Way to flex that intellectual muscle. May I suggest the ignore button so the rest of us can enjoy this site without your bully like mentality.
I wonder if the veiw count will increase due to my participation??

WestportMafia:

Now we're going back a few years (early 2009, I just checked), but if memory serves me, this is about a Lamiglas rod.

It had guides that made a little cracking noise when flexing as many factory Lamiglas rods do but we took it back regardless and ordered a new one. You came by and saw your rod sitting in the back room and thought we hadn't taken the time to order you a new one.

If this is the case you would have been mistaken to assume that we hadn't ordered a replacement. Lamiglas ships rods in bulk to our distributor who we get the rods from so it can take time to get a replacement and they wait to reach a tipping point before sending a bulk order out. Once the distributor gets the rods, their rep also hand delivers them to decrease the risk of damage via UPS which also adds to delivery time.

Additionally, we don't ship rods directly back to Lamiglas. The rep from the distributor picks them up to help save us money. We just pile up defective or broken Lamiglas rods until the rep happens to be in the area to pick them all up.

I don't remember if this was explained to you. I don't know if this is even the issue, but I believe it is.

If this isn't what all this has been about over the years - then you really never gave us a chance to fix the problem as I don't know what it is.

You offered to tell Sea Dangles the details. I'd like to take you up on that offer as well. You can call me or email me. As you obviously feel strongly about whatever it was I don't know that we can fix things entirely to your satisfaction but I'd like to at least understand what happened.
