Bad Idea?
 

Last Black Friday (2011) I picked up 2 Trophy 126 kayaks from #^&#^&#^&#^&s for pretty cheap. I used them this year for river and lake/pond fishing. I was planning on trying some bigger water with them this year (calm days.) Am I going to wish I had a bigger boat?

No...you should be fine size wise....are they sit ins or Sit ons?

Sit ins.

Those would be fine for sheltered Coves and places like Joppa flats...I don't know If I would trust them for Ocean Front.

So more because of the sit-in style than the size? Harder to get out of in an emergency?

You can get swamped if you don't wear a spray skirt.

Harder to get back in when you fall out....

and like Nebe said....you would need a spray skirt....or a bilge pump :hihi:

I was kidding about the trash bag. The spray skirt and pump are on my list for this year as accessories I should have had last year.

That little yak will be fine. We have a couple of 10' yaks, sit inside that are great. Like with any boat, you have to pick and choose your days on the water. Only advise would be, tie up a paddle leash to the paddles because when you hook up with a nice fish, you can drop the paddles and grab the rod before it goes overboard.

I wouldn't fish the tip of naps or Brenton reef in it. Bays.. Rivers.. Calm nights with low swells.. No problem

Most kayak fishing guys use SOTs now because they are so much easier to get in and out of. You really need to learn how to do a wet exit and self recovery if you are going to use a sit in.
