Bald Eagle
Unless my eyesight is really bad I saw one on Highland St. across from Lake Assawopsett, Lakeville yesterday. Sitting in a tree. Really nice to see.

there has been a brood there for almost 20 years now

Yeah I see one or 2 or the same one every year and still like the first time, every time. Sometimes in years past if Assawopsett freezes they will drag a deer carcass out on ice in middle and they will work on it. I will see the bird people in the parking lot at True Value with their scopes and binocs watching so that is when I know they are around. They are really a complex of lakes, ponds so the birds can be found on any one of 4 or 5 areas so I am sure I miss them a lot.

I used to be one of those in the truck when I lived in Middleboro

There are 2 nesting pairs on the North Watuppa in Fall River. Last year we were doing some drills with the fire dept and the D.E.M. showed up and went to the nest. They put each eaglet in a bag, lowered it down and weighed them. 7 in all.
My son and I were looking for birds (Ducks and Geese) on the Lee's River in Somerset and a guy came out of his house and asked if we saw the eagles. Claims there were 2 flying around the previous day. |
Saw 2 today. 1 came and perched at the top section of a giant pine while the other carried and dropped large amounts of nesting above the tree- tops. Awesome to see. Especially up close with the binoculars

coolest thing is seeing them do the long low swoop
grab a wiggling trout and fly off with in it's talons. then later on a stealth approach using binocs see them tearing off chunks.... |
I prefer the pelican crash and recover

Saw one this past weekend at James Eddy in Maine. There were lots of white perch strewn aboutthe ice outside the shanties and I wondered if it would take an easy meal like that when no one was on the ice.

I saw one on 1/9 and again on 1/14 perched on the same branch on Whitman's Pond in Weymouth. Guess it wasn't as unique a sighting as I thought.

Funny, about two weeks ago I saw an inmature land on a piece of
ice between two flocks of geese on open water. The geese weren't bothered and the young eagle didn't know what to do. As I continued to walk a mature bald flew out of a tree 25 feet away. Must have been watching his offspring. |
