Sealing question
 

When sealing a plug with linseed oil, can you dip the whole plug into it and let it soak? Or is it better to brush it on?

Next question, how long do you let it dry before you can prime and paint?

dip the whole thing that way it will fill every nook and cranny. Then drip dry for a few hours, wipe down and let hang for a week or more.....Takes forever to dry.

Sealing ?? Minwax ,, High performance ,, Wood Hardener,,..brush on..then let dry...then spray with stain kill.... KILZ...ready for paint

uh uh dip them still with the minwax. You'd be surprised how much the wood needs to properly seal it. I've done extensive testing and the only way to effectively seal it is to dip it.
I've gone to the Minwax stuff exclusively to seal now because it doesn't let the plug suck up once iota of water when you dip them.

there was a method used to seal the old wooden type gutters by plugging the downspout hole and filling them with linseed oil untill it soaked in there by preserving the wood for many years.
nearly everyone had a big old can of linseed oil hanging around in their basement from the practice.

Be sure it is BOILED linseed oil. Plain linseed oil will not dry and will not take paint, it will lift.
