so i need a grinder to make chum. my big brain got to work and came up with this gem. why not just take a garbage disposal and make a little hopper for the intake and wire it up with a adjustable switch to slow it down a bit. think it will work

Yes - I saw one like that last season. Just an on/off, no speed adjustment. Pretty bad ass.

Commercial paint stirrer about 25 bucks with 3/8 center rod...need 1/2 inch drill
Can make 5 gallons in 10-15 minutes

1. cut the paint stirrer leaving the center rod 1 1/2 inches longer then blades
2. sharpen both sides of u shape blades
3. 5 gallon bucket with 2x4 screwed to inside of bottom drill center hole about 3/4 of an inch..make hole diameter to fit a coin so that U do not drill through wood.
4. Cut hole in 5 gallon plastic cover for stirrer to fit...crap will not splash up on U
5. Add 1/4 bucket of water..put drill thru cover into centerhole...add fresh or defrosted fish...add extra water if needed.

Ok, so you guys plan to make your chum.
Whats your method for containers, freezing and dispensing in the water ???
Lots of guys use 1-5 gallon buckets, fill, freeze, bring out drill on boat, drill a bunch of holes ect....
Whats your method ?

for a recipe i plan on adding sand,oats, and bunker oil. gonna freeze it up in square buckets. ill make some smaller ones and bigger ones. drill an 1.5 inch hole in each side and put it in a milk crate w/ a pool float wrapped around it. or lust take the lid off but youll burn through alot of chum. got a small ball tied off to it so we can dump it if we find a nice patch of groundfish and want to make a few drifts but not mess up the slick.

So you get 1 use out of a bucket and throw them away ?

no - i take the lid off and burn through chum. the more the merrier. that way at the end of the day if you still have chum you can just put the lid back on and refreeze

We put the frozen chum in 2 crates zipped tied together . It keeps the blue dogs from getting to it . I also clip a ball to it so I can leave it if we have to power up to fight a large fish . Return to the chum and usually there is sharks waiting .
We do the beach sand add in also to get the chum deep to the Threshers

I filled a case of tennis ball cans for small chumming operations for macs, harbor pollack, floundah etc.. They will fit in a weighted chum cage

I cooked up this a few years ago...still running strong. Cobbled the parts off ebay along with some scrap did not cost me much at all. I used Van's original design as a guide.

When the bucket is MT you can save it, tape the 2 holes on the outside with good tape, gorilla...and refill and freeze then next time just rip the tape off.

That muffin monster is awesome but it must cost a fortune. I have never seen a price on one or a dealer in the US. I think they use them in sewage plants to keep the lines free from solid blockage. Amazingly powerful you can put anything in them as shown here...

For storage...when I make my chum I line a 4-5-gallon bucket with a plastic trash bag. Have the chum get deposited into the lined bucket. When full, put in chest freezer bucket and all. The next day is is frozen but not rock hard. I pull the plastic bag with chum out of the of the bucket, remove the bucket from the freezer and leave the bag with the chum in the freezer to get rock hard. It will take a few days to get really hard all the way thru. When I go fishing I take the bagged frozen block to the boat, peel back the bag and place the frozen block in a aquaskins canyon chum bag. Works well.

My disposal at home has a hard enough time with a lemon rind, never mind anything hard. I always have to pull out little pieces of plastic or bones that get stuck in it..

Somebody has already motorized it. Holes are a little small but the plates can be changed.

The #32 is the way to go, but you want the 3/4" plate that is what I have but no motorized.....yet, have a couple old motors around, just need to find out the speed of them.

we use an industrial hobart meat grinder. I need to make the holes a little larger as the chum is a little too fine but so far the only thing to stop it was a 12oz bank sinker I forgot to take out of a stick bait before it went into the grinder
