GOOD START. COMMENT----> first pic
DONT tie the deerhair that far on the hook eye, keep it BACK BEFOR THE EYE. NEXT-----> tie in the flash FIRST, then A SPARCE amount of deer hair. NEXT------> then the feathers on TOP. NEXT-----> DONT use so much thread on the head. NEXT-----> put 3-4 LIGHT coats of HEAD CEMENT on the head to control the SIZE of the head. NEXT---> ROTATE the head while drying to get a uniform formation. hope that helps GOOD LUCK GOOD TYIN |
Yeah, that first one I ended up redoing

Looks good. Few things to remember-
Less is more when it comes to tail hooks. These materials create drag, and too much can really alter the action of a plug. When I tie tail hooks I use about a quarter of the material you have there. I assume you're using pretty heavy thread? 3/0 or so? When you tie in your bucktail, make the first couple wraps about 1/8" behind the eye. Then give it two or three STRONG wraps to lock it down. Then grab the butt sections and pull them vertical (perpendicular to the hook shank) and trim with your scissors parallel to the hook shank. What that will do is create an angle to the cut ends. When you form your head, it will be neatly tapered and only about 1/8" or so. A much cleaner end result. |
