Rattle chamber experiment.....and some Pabst :)
Hey Fellas,
Snow day here in WI as we are getting pounded so I finally got some shop time. Here is a short little video on a rattle chamber I made (my first) using a tutorial from another site with some fun and effective modifications. My process was very similar to the tutorial, I took one of my Musky Spook blanks and drilled a shallow 5/8" hole with forstner bit on both sides of the plug. I then drilled a 1/2" channel through plug. Next, I drank a Pabst :buds: and then cut two 5/8" discs from the can to seal the ends. I also lined the 1/2" channel with Pabst aluminum as well. I used epoxy to seal the end disc and then when dry added a 5/16' steel bearing. I then epoxied the other end cap and filled in hole with plumbers putty. I sanded the putty when dry and I was pleasantly surprised with how loud the rattle is. The plumbers putty definitely added to the decibels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxByGRvHRsU http://i883.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps315510dc.jpg http://i883.photobucket.com/albums/a...psbfbaf6de.jpg http://i883.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps949e4e19.jpg http://i883.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps1faf9c20.jpg http://i883.photobucket.com/albums/a...psc2668487.jpg Thanks for checking it out....I hope everyones building season is productive so far :uhuh: Best, MS |
Awesome stuff as usual.
The doc spook has a similar rattle and I think that's one of the main reasons it catches so well. Might have to try that eventually on some stuff I'm building Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
MS that's sweet, is that installed behind the bottom hook hole? Are you using just screw eyes as opposed to thru wire. Interested how it changes the plug's action
|
I put glass rattles in my howdy's.

Thanks guys
Yup i'll be using screw eyes on this one..It will get two screw eyes and some giant hooks (6/0 4x trebles). So no worries on the thru-wire. Professor M how do the glass rattles sound? I think i've seen them are they small beads in a glass tube? Cool, cool MS |
I like them. I thru wire too. I just drill a pocket in the bottom of the plug with a flat bottom drill next to each other and then with a knife I remove the connection between them, like quarter wide by three quarters long. I lay the rattle in there and epoxy it in like a belly weight. Shallow enough for thru wiring. I like your ingenuity too.

Well done. I have never tried rattles but it is on the to-do list for an upcoming spook.

This "rattle project" is a worthwhile venture as it is imperative that we find the best beer can or bottle cap rattle sound... the search continues... lol

MS thats great. Now you gave "something else" to do! LOL
