Ballston Beach Breach
They just showed footage on News 7 of Ballston Beach......looks like a full on breach through to the Pamet River??? Bad!! If that cut gets bad enough, and it looks like it is, they could have permanent salt water flowing through there I would imagine??? Very bad! Angie and I got married right where the breach cut through.

They had a trickle there on the last big storm. Wow

It ain't no trickle now....if that cuts a bit more from what I see the ocean will flow freely through there even at low tide???
I saw that. It wa no trickle thats for sure.
Some of the greatest night on the back were right there.
Use to be a hole right in front of the house on the top of the dune. Had a 48# one night along with 8 in the high 30s to mid-40s right there. Maybe 1994 or 95 |
Any thoughts from anyone on if that will heal itself or it can be repaired??? That cut looks below sea level at this point??
Gonna be tough to shore that up. If they can save the parking lot (and access) you'll have a good place to fish on the drop.
Wow Mother Nature is a beast.

That's incredible. I have always felt a good storm like Sandy was to Jersey would take out a lot of the Lower cape given the right circumstances very fragile area. Too bad

I know that had breached there before......maybe it can be repaired but that cut looks like its gonna be deeper and permanent after tonights high tide!
WOW! Is that a house up on that hill? Glad it's not mine. doesn't look like to many more storms are needed to knock it into the water.
They moved that house back 80 feet about 5 years ago....at a cost of $1,000,000 from what I understand!!
I fished there a few years ago when I fished the race and back beaches . At night with live eels.

Boat ramp
Wow. unreal
MMMM. BOOOOOAAAAT Ramp
With CANAL!
Going down there later today, will post some pic's at different points in the tide to see how deep it is.
I'm thinking a new breach way (like the ones in Rhode Island), then a marina in the back pond with 80 slips, reserved for fisherman - that will resolve Pamet's parking issues when the tuna are running! |

When the waves receded, I did not see a "ditch", so the water hasn't really dug deep into the bottom sand yet, which would be like a river. It is flowing up and through.Attachment 55368

Not enough backflow from the river it's self. This is just pushing more sand into the marsh. The predominant current flows along the beach will replace the sand and it will heal back up.
Rich...what does the backside look like? Have you taken any walks from High Head towards Peaked Hills Bar? I do miss those winter walks from the Head past the shacks and the trail walk back. There should be some great stuff washed up about a mile and a half from the Head.Minus lows revealed some great bones over the years.SHHHHH!!!!! don't tell Mr.Price |
Have not been down there yet, but Tom, ex - N. Truro postmaster, said Head of the Meadow got wacked really hard - I'll check it after the Bruins game!
thanks for the pics.... we need to dredge that thing out!!

I remember that Paul. There was a great bowl in front of that spot that fished really well. I fished there all night with Hab,Squirrel and Teaser Jack til our arms were sore. What a super memory of an awesome crew. They would chip in and get a room in Truro for the month of September and Chef would have food trucked in from the Ptown Inn as well as heineken!!!Saw a lot of sunrises down there.
That bowl holds lots of great memories. Like all things change is imminent. Got my first backside 40 there.

It was an overwash event, not a breach with tidal flow a la Wasque or Trustom in RI. It will close via longshore transport... |
