Great Fluke Day!!
 

Hey guys went out to Luacs today and had a great time!! We got about 80# and it was a blast. My dad is down from Vermont and he loves going!! He broke his neck about 16 years ago and he doesn't get out to much. But once a year I go to Vermont pick him up for a week or 2 and we fish. Getting him in a boat really sucks!! But its worth the look on his face.
Was a little choppy going over then flaten out ok the ride home was ok with the SW on are back with a incoming.

MJ, BigShrimpin and i had an easy ride home too. We went through Robinsons Hole then straight up Buzzards Bay to Cataumet. Didn't get wet the whole ride back.:D I think we totaled only 60# of Fluke which really isn't that bad considering the slow day we had along with the later start than youz guys had. With the lousy tide we had, we just couldn't get a good drift going. Oh well, lets do it again!:cheers:

Glad to hear it!! After I went to the market we ended up with 127# So it was better then I had thought. Tide was all wrong, with the slack at 8am and all. Well it was nice to meeet you guys and we will be doing again real soon. :)

I'm taking next thursday off work and going fluke fishing with my cousin (just found out he runs a charter and goes cod/haddock fishing every weekend -- and I have an eternal invite!!!) and have never been out for fluke.

What are some basics I might need to know? They are a smaller fish (than stripers) right?? (don't want to jerk on my line and yank the little guy right outta the water!!!! lol) :happy:

It is real easy fishing for Fluke, but don't let them fool you they can fight! If you are lucky to catch a nice 10 pounder it will take the drag. Nice eating fish. watch the teeth when you are pulling the hook out.
What we do is I have a 3/0 wide gap hook on a 30" flro leader with a fish finder for the weight. I use squid skirts on the hook (white or glo color) work the best for me. I will put a piece of Squid or fluke belly on allso. Drop to the bottom with anough weight to hold the bottom. Just let the boat drift and slow jig. Thats it. There mouth is kinda soft so use a net to pick them out of the water. Always a net on the big ones.

Mako is right! Not only is it easy and fun fishing IMO fluke is one the best tasting fish going.

sweetieface, lucky you, girl. anyway, you might get lucky if you can catch a fluke on a small got-cha plug like 3/8 oz -3 oz make sure it has a bucktail on the end w/ a hook. you migh thought that it was a bluefish fighting, then once you see a white belly up on the surface, that's a reward. i read a article from SW sportsman last year, a guy caught a big one in NJ by using a 3 ft of flouro line on a 3-way swivel and one 6 in. mono line for a sinker w/3 oz-6 oz, a kahal hook (or a widegap) #6 with a live or dead blue snapper (5 inches). i havent tried it. hmm, this just occured in my mind. if there are blues in poppy flats, then there are probably a few snappers. maybe i shld get one and experiemnt it soon...

sandman-fishing for fluke isnt the easiest to catch. well not, to me, but i gotta learn soon.

Far too early for snappers. They won't be big enough until late July or August.
