Canal - Shimano

Anyone have any experience canal jigging with a Saragossa 18000? I know it's heavy, but I like a heavy reel. How does it hold up over a season or 2?

I think it would hold up fine as it's primarily designed for Tuna, Rooster fish, etc. I think unless you are 6' 6" and 280 it's overkill for the canal. My nephew landed a 30# bass on a Penn 5500 in a screaming East tide and that's a peanut of a reel.

This is the reel I'd look at it. 18k is BIG. Even if the weight doesn't bother you the actual size of it might, it's kind of bulky.

Saragosa's seem to hold up well. Can't think of one even coming back to the shop with issues, although I did see a couple 18k's that Dom Petrarca used on the Cape for tuna. The drags were almost vaporized but the reel otherwise was working fine.
