Fluke/Flounder?
Not being a big bottom fisherman.....can someone explain to me how I can tell the difference between fluke and flounder?
|
fluke face left, flounder right. fluke also have serious teeth.
|
They are very similar, but have differences. One is that the fluke, clearly a game fish, has a large mouth with sharp teeth, capable of ingesting a whole squid, The mouth on a winter flounder is tiny with less pronounced teeth. The eye configuration is a little different, too. You may be able to google comparative depictions.

Thanks guys...just want to stay in line with the regs! Had a feeling it was the way they face!
|
Definitely the teeth are the big difference.....going out for some flatties this weekend?

Don't think you are likely to get a fluke in Boston Harbor? But you catching a flounder may also be a fluke! :rotf2:

dont confuse them with sea robbins and skate. :rotf2:

If you get a flounder with a tarpon like mouth that's a windowpane flounder, off limits. We get about 1 a day
