Having fun with shorts

Found a little rip up inside the main harbor here.

7' rod w/ 10lb. and 3" smack-it. Had a blast catching a dozen or so 25-28" ers.

This spot has awesome long line potential.

:D

What is the lure and why/how did you fish it?

Lure

Hey,

That is a "Smack-it" plug from Stillwater lures. I don't think they have a website but shops are advertising them. Do a web search with smackit lures as the keywords.

There are a couple of ways to fish it. Last evening it was casting up above the rip and popping it loudly a couple of times. Not hard enough to get it airborne out of the H20 but enough to create a splash. I will do this 2 or 3 times and then initiate a slow retrieve with a few pops and twitches along the way. It works, period.
I have landed 25 lb fish on the bigger version of the same plug.
That is the 3" pictured. They also make a 5". They cast nice and aren't too expensive @ $ 6 - 7.

My gear was a 7' Loomis w/10 lb. stren with a 15 lb. seagar leader double unied to the mainline. Makes a short feel like a 30 lber !

Good luck.

From you original post I misread it and didn't realize smack-it was the lure. I just picked up one 3" and one 5" smackit. - kaching, more money gone on lures.

I also picked up some 4/0 gamatsukiyaki hooks.
I will grab a mack this afternoon and try my luck with the evening tide.
