You should have seen the look on his face
Poor kid just came to my front door asking for a donation. It seems the federal government is considering cutting funds necessary to protect wildlife on the beaches of Cape Cod.
I asked him if he had been to the beaches recently, did he enjoy the smell of seal crap? And why on earth would I want to preserve an area for "widlife"that is more and more off limits to PEOPLE. Might as well burn it down. He left quickly. |
Liar.

Let's all make sure we discourage our youths from participating on our democracy whenever possible.

Spence, I don't know you, so I'm just going to laugh and let that slide off my back. I don't bull#^&#^&#^&#^& people, or if I do, it's with such a stupid grin that they know I'm full of it'
If you knew me, you wouldn't have said that, maybe someday we'll be friends, but that is not a smooth way to start. |
Your story stinks. I think you're making it up or at least embellishing. A kid is at your door and you dismiss him then brag about it? Doesn't make sense to me...
Perhaps it is true but that may be even more strange :hihi: Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
I would have wanted to know what wild life they are looking to preserve and who the money was going to and why?

At least the kid didn't make an unsolicited call to your home just as you took your first bite of dinner. Regardless of how you feel about whatever he was collecting for your reply to his request should have his attitude while he asked you for money

I would have had some fun with him as well. He probably got a summer job working for a conservation group. I saw adds for them hiring in the boston area this summer. I am sure they have an agenda which more than likely will jive with fisherman in some respects. There is noting wrong with educating these kids. I would venture to say they were not given all sides of the story by their employer.

right as we all sat down for dinner and instead of telling them to "HIT the road JACK" i simply said: DAD ! it's for you..... :uhuh: |
I would not consider it discouraging kids.....this year we have seen multiple kids from the metro west area dropped off in our complex in Plymouth by the same Boston based marketing company.....collecting for charities. One was to stop a pebble mine in bristol bay.....didn't know where bristol bay was....another collecting for vets......tried to tell me I'm not a vet since I served in the coast guard. Thread very groups are telling people not to give to door to door funds speakers since they get less than 10% of what is collected.

I just tell them that I am deaf.
Stewie, I think that what you just did is freaking funny to me as hell because you did have a valid point there! |

Just Kidding. We work with a Coast Guard vet and there are 4 Navy vets (myself included) and we are always busting his balls about that....alll good ribbing though |
Wonder what the "poor kid" would have to say here,,, hmmm

Spence - only thing I've ever seen him lie on is how far he casts. :rotf2:
So let's drop the liar part for places other than the Poliforum please :uhuh: |

One of my daughters had a summer job once for VPIRG (vermont public interest research group) It was a fundraising job, door to door, spreading halftruths and soliciting money from people to further their mission. Sounds like the same deal to me.
You missed a chance to educate the kid and besides every minute he spent with you he was not raising money to further the cause. Of course if he did'nt meet his targets he is gone. |

I wonder who taught the kid his fundraising skills, of insulting people and asking for a donation. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
