Whatcha think?

Given how far it is from his body I don't think so... Is he supposed to be holding it himself in the pic?

no. thats a mid 30 held far out. there's no girth

parker23 07-11-2013 04:55 AM

That fish is at least a 50#. No world record, but one hell of a bass. She could eat the fish I have been catching lately!

jon2465 07-11-2013 05:20 AM

73.75

parker23 07-11-2013 05:36 AM

Wow

What a beautiful cow!

Raider Ronnie 07-11-2013 06:25 AM

If I was going to fake a big fish I could do better then that . That's either real or the worst long arm I have ever seen. I tend to so BS and if its real... 40#

PaulS 07-11-2013 08:12 AM

I'd say easily over 50.

nightfighter 07-11-2013 08:32 AM

Why all the doubters???? It is supposedly Greg M, who holds the certified record, though I don't personally know him, nor could I identify him from a picture. From reports I have read or heard over the past year, he is hardcore, serious bass fisherman. He played collegiate football, so is large in stature. If he were a contributing member here, we would all be congratulating him.... That is a serious catch! I for one, enjoy seeing such a picture, as catching bass is what I enjoy and is why I come here.....

1 - In today's day and age you can take a MUCH better photo than that with almost any camera. If guys keep releasing these grainy, washed out pictures of a bass, people are going to keep speculating

2 - The whole fish isn't in frame and its being held at a VERY peculiar angle.

If I ever catch a fish that big the picture will be very good quality, the fish will be held against my body for an unquestioned source of scale, and the entire fish will be in frame.

I wish people would just try to make their fish NOT look sketchy.

For the record, I didn't doubt the picture was real, just wasn't a WR (>80lb) fish.

nightfighter 07-11-2013 09:00 AM

I agree, not a record. He reported it to be 73 1/4# (second hand report he must have put on FB. I don't do FB) Most of collaborative info came off the other board, which includes him saying it fought harder than any other bass he had hooked, including the record fish.

As for photos.... especially at night... I am a fisherman, not a photographer. Hence you will not see more than two posted pics of me holding fish.... I have a dumb phone and don't carry a camera. It's not what I do it for.

seadogg 07-11-2013 09:02 AM

What the hell is the point of even speculating? Whether the thing is 20 pounds or 120 pound doesn't do much for me. Who cares?

Wow. I'd love to catch a fish big enough for people to argue about possibilities of it being a record. Not sure I ever will, but would love every sec of it! VERY VERY nice fish. Good on him!

bart 07-11-2013 09:36 AM

Nice fish. My only beef is that he catches a lot of big fish and kills a lot of big fish. How many do you need to kill at this point? Why not only keep what would be close to beating your own record at this point? What else is left to prove?

I agree but its within his right to keep em, as of now at least. That guy knows how to go large for sure. If i were to catch a world record and keep it i think everything else would swim away. Unless of course i was fishing a tournament like the striper cup. :smash:

I think its just my mentality but when i get a large fish i am frantic trying to get that thing back in the water. As soon as i see the fish i go into a half panic on getting it back in the water healthy. I take more of an ass woopin in the surf releasing than i ever do catching.

My views on catch and release aside, congrats to Greg.

Rockport24 07-11-2013 10:25 AM

Looking at the photo, his arm does appear to be bent and not outstreched, but I'm no forensic photo guy..

Either way, it's looks like a damn nice fish, so congrats to him again.

Raven 07-11-2013 10:28 AM

It's a great catch regardless...
too bad the camera flash made him squint his eyes a Bit

so I took his eyes from another picture and edited that photo
just my way of saying "nice fish" Greg !

one for the scrap book

The photo that would really impress me would be one of him releasing a fish like that...

Thank you. Glad you appreciate my point of view.:rotf2:

MAKAI 07-11-2013 11:42 AM

If I caught a 73# fish I'd take it on tour with me. Unless I got it where I fish a lot, then the long walk back would kill me. In that case the lame cell phone pic would have to do

couldnt of said it better

Rockport24 07-11-2013 12:23 PM

Well I know there are guys on this site that have released some very nice fish so there is a little bit of truth in these statements, not 70 pounders of course and that may be a different story, but I do believe fishing isn't about chest thumping for everyone...

I'm pretty sure I've never killed a 73 pound fish. Although, there's always the one that RIROCKHOUND dropped in the wash, I didn't get a good look at it.
