Family of Pikies
 

All of AYC, all thru-wired. First batch are 9 1/2 inches. Top is 7 oz, bottom is a tad over 5.

Jointed ones. Top is 10 inches long, bottom is 7 inches and 3 oz. Have not weighed the first one yet.

Top two are 7 inches and 3.4 oz, bottom is 6 inches and 2.3 oz.

4 1/2 inches and 1.2 oz. All of the straight pikies stay on top with that sexy arse in the air wobble. Jointed ones have more of a snakey wiggle to them.

I'm new to this plug building stuff, and am wondering what AYC stands for. Also did you make these from scratch, or are they refurbished? Very nice either way!

Rocketman, Specialist hit it right. AYC = Alaskan Yellow Cedar and they were turned on a lathe from scratch. Bought the lips for those.

How do you get the shape up by the nose of the plug to look so good?...

I round out the nose on the lathe. Finish up with sandpaper. I do the face slop of the pikie on a belt sander. To keep it even I made a small jig (bent a piece of scrap sheet metal) that fits in the lip slot. Once the face has been cut back to so the jig is being hit with the sander, I know its done. Finish up with a sanding block.

I will be picking up a lathe from Slip this weekend to get going on building my own plugs, and I'm hoping to pick the brains of a few of you out there who have really come into your own on building some beautiful pieces of art!

You and Bernzy have built some amazing Pikies, so I may be in touch with both of you to get some advice on building them!

I've never used them & don't have any of these in my plug bag yet, so I had asked Hab's in the past about purchase of some of his Split Pikies.

Habs also has some great plugs out there!... I saw them at the SB event in Feb & WOW!!! I was blown away with the quality of his work.

And being the master that he is, he hasn't had the time to get back to me on when he will have some available...

They sure look like they would be great producers!...

Nose down, arse in the air, tail slapping the water. Real sexy :D Been real slow down here on the night time plug bite. Managed this 11# a couple weeks back.

Be happy to provide some pointers. Just post questions when you start building. There are a number of guys here who know pikies better than me, so I'm sure they'll provide some good input too.
