Been using a zip lock bag and despite the use of bags and bags and seals and seals that smell is still making it out... Don't know from where...

Anyone use a rubbermaid sealed food container? Looking for one that is in a size that would fit in the ice cube tray of a dorm style fridge. Found a couple candidates online and gonna go to Wally world (or somewhere) today to find something...

Suggestions? I'll post what I come up with.

Been using ziplock freezer bags never had a problem, I put enough water in the bag to cover the eel then freeze (put some tubing on the hook points so they don't puncture the bag). Take them outta the freeze a few hours before I leave,there usually thawed out pretty good by the time I get to the beach.

I kept them in bags in a ice cream container in the freezer for years, my wife never noticed till one day she found a bucket of snakes, ewwww........... she didn't like strawberry

I bet something like this would work pretty good. Silicone one of the caps in place and store it upright.

I was looking for something with a solid end and a threaded cap on the other. I know it's out there, just need to find it.

I dunno if jays seen this one yet, but I'll let you know how he does his "eelbobs"... he has a vacum sealer that he uses. he made a bunch in the early spring and froze em they thaw on the car ride down one or two drifts and they're fine

How about the sandwich size Tupperware containers

I have about 60 frozen eels in my freezer... I'm going to go see if it smells. If not, I'll tell you how I'm storing them

I save the large plastic coffee containers, wash them out really well, place riggies in bottom and fill with just enough water to cover them and freeze away. No freezer burn and no smell.

I bought a rubbermaid container at Wal Mart last night. Just the right dimensions for the "freezer" compartment I have in the garage. Smell is not present as of this morning... which is a "so far so good" thing.

These other suggestions are going to be great for when I have more freezer space one day

One way to NOT store riggies is in the bottom of your surf bag, under a couple of prized needles, and hung on your porch in the middle of a heatwave.:smash:

And the ones you don't use while your fishing just go back in the freezer over and over again. The bags I make are a couple inches wide and fit in the plug bag or tubes. It has worked great. No stink and no freezer burn. You can bring the used ones home and revac them in a minute or 2

If I had a vac sealer I'd be using it, trust me. That was the first thing that crossed my mind.

But vac sealing rigged eels I am trying to keep out of the eyes of others might draw unwanted attention :devil2:

I use the container w/ water. No smell, no burn. I have some which date back a few years. I do stretch out the spine b/4 I use them. On vac packing, do not vac down an unfroze one. you'll squezze the s***t out of them. Par freeze them the vac away. This is a great way to put the riggies to sleep for the winter.

I've been storing bait long enough to know that I ALWAYS wash the outside of the strage container and my hands before putting it away. A lot of the smell is transferred to the outside of the bag if you don't wash your hands before putting it away. Then the stuff freezes and falls off in the freezer, stinking it up. So wash container and hands first, then dry with a paper towel and put away. That should help.

60 x 10= way to much free time.
