There was one right in the wash off one of the Long Island beaches on Thursday.

I saw the pic, didn't realize it was a hammerhead. These guys get a great shot of the shark right next to the boat. crazy it was right on the reef basically!

that's cool

I bet there are all sorts of "fun" predators lurking about this year with the water temps being as high as they are. If things heat back up and the water temps rise again, i wouldnt be too shocked if tiger and bull shark sightings started to rise. At which point I would stop entering the water at night..cause I'm a wuss when it comes to bulls and tigers. Hammerheads are cool though... i trust them..lol

We used to catch tiger sharks offshore fairly often in August and Sept.

That bad boy could easily be cruising on 2nd beach they don't mind shallows ..
Why didn't you throw a bait !!

bart 07-28-2013 10:04 AM

I didn't take the video. the guys on the boat were apparently throwing squid to it, if you couldn't hear them :smash:

I was just in JTN all last week. Could've been cruising mackerel cove when I was swimming there at all hours of the day. It was actually strange. I swam out to the buoy that the boats can't pass at dusk one night and I started to get a little weirded out. First time I'd ever thought about a shark in those waters. And there very well could've been

we saw one last year a few miles out from RI. Tried to bait him but he wouldn't crash our bait.

You never know.

During the 90's heyday of bluefishing the humps south of Newport the regulars would routinely hook something and never stop them.

We took a small Mako on those grounds in 1994 or so. Probably 5.5ft or so on Bluefish gear.

That might have been the same time frame that Marc Ducharme was targeting sharks and had a 200 lb (Thresher?) from the Block surf. He hooked others that didn't stop. I think the Projo ran an article about it.

This may be the year that..... we have many more human seals swimming around now.

I might be dangling a bluefish over the side while plugging for bass this week.
