keeping blue crabs alive
they seem to die on me almost instantly. anyone got any tips on keeping them happy for a day or so
|
Don't let them see that ugly mug! Its enough to frighten any small sea creature to death!!!:rotf2:
I suggest wearing a paper bag with cutout eyes while catching! |
a live box in saltwater is best. nextbest is ice in bottom of cooler, covered by a rackto prevent drowning and crabs on top. add moist seaweed or burlap. keep moist and cool

You can just leave them in a bucket covered with a damp towel in the coolest part of the house. If you have a large cooler with a drain plug, put them in that. Leave the drain plug open toss in a bag of ice and cover with a burlap bag or old towel. Put the crabs on top and close the cover. And if the wife is really cool about it, just empty a vegetable drawer in the fridge and dump the crabs right in and close.

Just make sure you keep them cool and wet, but don't put them in enough water to drown them!

I'll play the jury and executioner.

I'd go with at least 5 judges.
I'll volunteer as a willing audience taste tester! |
