Black Seabass on North Shore?
I don't know squat.... How to pick spots to target? Jigs? Baited jigs? Do they get up here? Want to try something different. Freak, Tunaless, SaltyRic, somebody, help me out......

Try rocky hump with fast moving current, jigg'em up!

ross they are super easy to catch. hi/lo rig with 1/0 or 2/0 hooks, jigs tipped with clam or squid. for specific spots up there im no help up there. but rocky structure with current should be no problem for you to find. drifting works well

Just drive down here and jump in with me.

Humps down 25-50 feet with some sort of structure, near open clean water.not the spots you would find harbor pollack in, say like very rocky -cragly lobster structure. If you can find a small wreck or rock pile on a sandy bottom its probably got seabass on it. Small 1.5 oz jigs work too. Squid is by far the best, they like b2 squids also.
You won't get a lot of keepers but there's a million of them around. Kids love them. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |

found a few shorts a few weeks back during some recon trips, but this was before the squid had moved in. May need to go again this week.

Went over a few humps this past weekend that had some life on them, but didn't have the right gear onboard to "sample" what species they were, but did not look like harbor pollack..... Going to hit a few this weekend to see what is hanging out.
