I hope some cobia come into the canal this year, I'd like a shot at landing one of those

If I ever got a Wahoo in the canal, I could die a happy man

They're a blast on light gear. Fight much better than a bass, pound for pound. You have to finesse them, because it's really easy to rip a hook loose, especially with braid. They're really beautiful when they first come out of the water. They like moving water, even more so than bass. That's where the "tiderunner" nickname came from.

Not the greatest eating fish out there, though. I kept one, once. That was enough. C&R only from then on.

They used to be part of the Vineyard Derby until they stop migrating in numbers this far north. Very pretty and tasy when they get to be 15 to 18 #' Very soft mouths as well. Guys I know that targeted them would fish live pogies using a balloon float. When the balloon went under and stayed there for a minute or two they knew the weakfish had swallowed the bait and would then fight the fish.

I feel like I'm taking an on line Edu course... LOL :fishin:

I know some were caught on the south side, mid cape, this year.

That's how I caught my first and only one, about 25 yrs ago. That was the fish that got me hooked.
