Root Canal
 

I make an appointment to have my teeth cleaned. This should cost me zero since the insurance pays that stuff 100%. A few days before the cleaning , I break the corner off a mostly filling molar. So the free cleaning turns into a $475 bill for a new cap for the broken tooth. Then the dentist says I have a little pinhole cavity on the other side of my mouth. So OK , lets fix it. While in there he sees another pin hole cavity and fixes that. Fine $80 more after insurance pays the 80%. The next day my gum is all infected and the dentist is closed so its a trip to the primary care guy who confirms a spreading infection (up into my face). I get antibiotics and promise the doctor that I will go back to the dentist. Tuesday I'm back at the dentist . He takes Xrays of the worst infected area and says the infection is not in any of the teeth he filled but in one next to it and that the tooth needs to come out or be root canaled. Well I still have all my teeth (and would like it to stay that way!) so I opt for the root canal. Well that appears to have gone well but because I had all this work done at once , I've exceeded my insurance coverage for 2013 and have to pay full boat for the root canal.

Bottom line , I'm on antibiotics , my teeth hurt from both the infection and the root canal and I'm out almost $2000 bucks on my teeth.

So then I go out to do the lawn and the mower spits and farts and then won't start. Bottom line , mouse nest in engine caused overheating and seizure of the valves , etc. Cost to repair--$560 bucks.

I'll tell ya . I'm getting shell shock here and also feeling mighty Grumpy!!

Dude, I'm feeling for ya. That does really suck.

Wife has dental implant surgery tomorrow morning if that helps.

Even with insurance it will end up costing $$$.

I had implant work done some years back and the cost averaged out to around 5K per tooth.

The most painful part of the whole process was getting the bill!

The tooth adjacent to the infected area is close enough to figure out he caused the infection. Negotiate the price .

Supposedly he did give me a lower price on the root canal. I agree the drilling the tooth next to it probably set it off . I'm not blaming him really since this tooth (root canal one) has been sensitive for a long time and did get infected once before about 5 years ago (just did the antibiotics and it was good (but sensitive) for a long time). My main grumpage is about the timing of the need for the root canal just after I blow my insurance max allowance on the other stuff and foolishly thinking I was all set until next year when I get another annual allowance. Then the lawn mower failing coincidently at the same time. After all , this is the proper forum for general old bitching. :)

Dryer sheets around stored engines prevents nesting.

You can negotiate a lot on price depending on the provider.

Next time have him yank the bad tooth....you can't take them with you when you go! Blow the money on something fun...like Jello! :rotf2:

I agree teeth in the back pull them. Save the money. Dental insurance is a joke.

Very sore the first 24 hours and a lot of swelling but she's doing well now. This was just to install the titanium shunt...once that heals she's ready for the actual implant. Don't expect that to be bad at all.

Her oral surgeon is great, he's this little Chinese guy, Harvard and Ohio State education and long service with the US Air Force. When I come to pick her up he greets me with a half hug...super nice guy.
