S-B at the Derby
Mr Sandman scored a couple bluefish yesterday. Boat and Boat flyrod divisions. Nice going Jim.
|
BasicPatrick hit the daily board with a shore bluefish on his first full day on island.
|
still looks very very very slow :wall:
no bones or albies from the beach , small bass from boats. Bass from shore avg 20lbs in the hot spot, :biglaugh: like opening day fishing for two hrs :smash: mini bass on north shore I have a friend fishing the rips off Chatham yesterday found zero stripers  only one other boat all day :fury: we need a wind /weather change or bait :rotf2: or less seals |
Good to see some of us on the board. I was there with my wife 14th to 21st. Fish were not cooperating.
Done derbys with basic before - right now he is a fishing machine.:ss: Wish i was still there instead of here at work. :smash: |

Don't judge everything by the weigh in...lots of fish are released or not weighed in. There are fish around. Bass and blues are being caught every night. Albies are being caught but they are not big. I had 8 or 9 one day and left them. Most are 24-25" and are in small schools. No acres of fish like last couple years, tiny pods of fish pop here and there, it is annoying. I got one decent fish on the first day and tossed it back...I should have weighed it in. I am going to target them today and maybe tomorrow. I really only tried for bass one evening from the boat and 2 night from the beach so far.15#ers are the biggest fish I caught so far. Next week I will look for bass with some effort.
I try to go for a couple hours every day but I have not been fishing all that hard. My back is still stopping me from doing all nighters in the surf or fishing 12 hour days on the boat. Yesterday I fished the boat for a couple hours and got a couple bones in the sound. One went 8.5. Not big but it helps my team. (Pilothouse of pain). Played with a small school of albies but they had lockjaw. Back at the dock by noon. Today and tomorrow I will try for an albie that is greater than 25" The middle of the day for me has been slow fishing. If you fish mornings and dusk and nights you will be OK. That 19# blue was a monster and there have been a few bass around 30# caught recently. It is shaping up. Bonito from the shore is a luck event at this point. My advice is if you catch one...run down and buy a powerball ticket the same day. The shore scene is more challenging but if you put in your time you should do fine. Fishing at high noon on a sunny beach day is generally not the best time for surfcasting, it never has been. Best of luck to you! |
SurfPirate scored a bluefish.....

I found more fish than fishermen last night, which is a bit odd for this time of year and where I was, but they where on small bait and I had made the wrong decision to go very large before I left the house. Fish just hanging in the current and rolling in the waves gulping down food washed their way while I watched. I could just about reach out and pet 'em. Fly gear was a very long walk away back in the car all safe and sound. Probably change that whole scene tonight, if you know what I mean. Especially since I am seeing no shore fly rod weigh-ins at all.
Good luck at Robotics Boss! |
you generally can't catch them when they are feeding on that krill. I suggest hand grenades and a dip net.

Not on board yet, but on MV since noon 10/4. Will be here till 10/15 with Tina as we are between our sold Southie house and our end of October Pocasset house. 10 days of the Derby, then surf challenge in RI, then Tri state in RI. Living the dream, looking for fish, so far 2 shut outs here in last 24 hours. But always optimistic.

Could that be Mrs Sandman leading the women's boat bluefish weekly?

Fished a few of the well known spots this past weekend. Found plenty of bait, but nothing eating it. Definitely a beautiful place- would be fun to go with an OSV permit and spend a week or so cruising around. Expensive though!!!

Maybe the bigger albies like to hunt alone and prefer the washing machine where they can use their size to their advantage. The schools are a lot of fun though if you want some action! |
Congrats to "Swimmer" for his daily All Tackle Bluefish!! Way to go Frank!!:buds:
