Cholesterol report...
I knew I shouldn't have gone to the doctor.... but I had to in order to stay on the insurance. Went for a physical in April... Just got around to going for blood work this week. And the numbers are in.... LDL (Bad) is 182 Target is <130. HDL is 39. PSA is fine 1.1. So they are recommending medication and diet adjustment. I don't eat badly now! I took myself off the statin meds years ago as it made my joints ache like hell every day. Never looked back. Nor had I been to a doctor since 2008, which is probably why I got 'fired' by my old doctor and had to get a new one... So some of you must be on meds for cholesterol. If so, what are you taking, and are there any side effects you have noticed? I would go without if I had to endure achy joints like that previously prescribed drug caused.
This aging thing sucks physically.... Need a knee replacement. Foot aches, have to get an xray at some point. And today my hip has been sore enough to make me think twice about attempting to hit the rocks tonight.... even after seeing the chiropractor...in October. So I know I am hurting. You young guys and gals better just get out there and do the things you want to do, now, while you are able to..... |
Over 20yrs I was on various statins and others, niaspam. Run IF your Dr suggest NiaSpam! I tried about 10 different drugs, all worked to lower cholesterol numbers but NONE produced NO side effects which varied with each drug. I quit all cholesterol meds over a yr ago and numbers are perfect and feel great. Eat more fresh fish....

Medication only masks the core problem. Eat like a monk.

Had the 'ol humerus replaced with a shiny titanium rod and some rotator cuff surgery. Now I'm waiting it out as long as I can for the knee replacements. |
Exercise, diet, and Omega-3 tabs worked for me. For the first time in my life, my HDL numbers are way above the LDL. I used to be on statins. Haven't taken them in over 3 years. Exercise and diet were the keys. Olive oil and other mono-unsaturated fats can help raise HDL. My doctor recommended one tablespoon of olive oil per day. For exercise, I started with walking for 20 minutes as often as I could. The bad knees are a problem there for you. Pedaling a bike puts no stress on your knees, as long as you're not trying to push too high of a gear. I switched to cycling for exercise 3 years ago, and now I can ride 100 miles with very little hurting.
I'm 60, and I haven't been in this great shape since I was running marathons in my late 20s. |
Way to go mike!!

Ok! i have some solutions for you NF
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i just got a prescription for 90 patches of LIDOCAINE (google it") peel and stick -slap it on the joint and the pain fades wicked fast (yipppeeee!) they're not like the other OVER the counter crap that's one solution the other is to start taking KRILL oil (the purest fish oil") this provides you the perfect fish oil to lubricate joints and to LOWER the bad cholesterol simultaneously i also use a product called "Move Free" ADVANCED Google it 3 way combo of Chondroitin ,glucosamine, and 3% hyaluronic acid word to the WISE Puritan Pride or AMAZON kicks ass for purchasing vitamins (nice thing bout puritan pride they have buy two get three free sales) and I take "Hyaluronic ACID" seperately as a supplement which your body actually produces in abundance until about age 40-45 then it tapers off and this is the body's version of WD40 i also reccommend going to the DOLLAR store and buying Doctor Fred Summit's Arthritis and Sport Penetrating Heat Rub good for 50% reduction in your symptoms in minutes plus it's only a buck a bottle a VERY simple formula that works beautiful for really serious pain i go to EMU oil made from the marrow of the flightless EMU bird (mini ostridge) from Australia MATE ! a RECIPE thats 2000 years old no less but it's Hot like a Jalapeno pepper in your mouth hot so likewise use caution and wash your hands after using it although it comes in a handy ROLL on. We use the sport rub for minor stuff and the EMU roll on for more serious surgical strike scenario's taking chondroitin and Glucosamine works miracles although many will argue it did nothing for them we are all walking bags of chemicals in transition |

Thanks to all for the input.
I used to drink Joint Juice to get the glucosamine and condroitin. Need to resupply. Felt better when I took it. Better half is getting the Omega3 for me right now, in the smaller pills. I struggle with the larger pills. Guess I am going to be getting back on the spin cycle in my "office" area. These are the type of non fishing discussions we can all benefit from here, as we all seem to have a common interest :fishin: and a certain level of trust without the attacks that prevail in a certain other forum.. |
