How late do you fish???

I thought about this the other night. In my younger days I use to start at the West Wall around St. Patrick's day and can remember one year (1994 maybe?) when I fished with a friend at Beavertail on Christmas Eve afternoon.

Now as I get older I don't like the cold so my season starts later, April 5th or so, and ends in late October.

How about the rest of you guys and gals?

PRBuzz 11-04-2013 07:24 AM

Usually about 2PM

Last 4-5 years October and early November have been lost due to Scouts but in the past I usually went to T-Day only to have buddies tell me I should have been there in December.

Nebe 11-04-2013 07:31 AM

I stop in feb. start in April. This year I didn't fish much though. :(

a few years ago I had my best fishing in ri in late nov early dec. some of you will remember this- giant blues and bass up to the 30's. not so good in the past few years. I know guys in se ma that catch very large in nov on a regular basis.

numbskull 11-04-2013 08:57 AM

Mid Nov from shore.
Thanksgiving by boat.
I've taken nothing large, though, after about Nov 11th.

RIROCKHOUND 11-04-2013 09:54 AM

Varies by the year.

Not going to Quonnie in the snow and sleet :smash: ever again though....

zimmy 11-04-2013 09:57 AM

I usually stop in December for awhile if it is really cold. I don't like iced guides. I usually go out on a warm day once in awhile in jan feb. Back at it march and heavy in april.

Ya, I remember.....
I also remember the day after Thanksgiving at 40 degrees in a 25knt SW wind.

Saltheart 11-04-2013 11:26 AM

In the day , Start St Pats day or so , end after Thanksgiving weekend , often at Montauk.

JLH 11-04-2013 12:29 PM

I've already started slowing down and have only been getting out once or twice a week in the past couple of weeks. I'll keep at it at this pace until around Thanksgiving and then it's over for me until mid to late April.

bassballer 11-04-2013 02:03 PM

I'm hauling out this week. I'll do a couple shore trips but nothing crazy.

I'm leaving the keys right now to go home and haul out my boat. Talk about depressing.

Normally I fish til Dec 1st but I have a lot going on with school and work. Have a great girlfriend who laughs every time I say I'm done. Well, I'm done. Gotta know when to fold 'em....

zacs 11-04-2013 03:57 PM

mid dec.

Justfishin' 11-04-2013 04:57 PM

Day before Thanksgiving usually; put my gear away day after. But I've been known to get it back out if it's a warm Dec.

Good so there is hope for tomorrow.
I'll stop when George stops calling me.
Riding the bike on canal this morning with that biting wind and only seeing 2 guys out and not a tap made me start to think I am pretty much just about there.

never really stop, just slow down a little - at least that's what my wife says

joebaggs99 11-04-2013 07:43 PM

One of the best nights I ever had was DEC 5th from the surf. All fish were 25-35lbs and fish on every other cast.

I hear ya, the reel is starting to feel like a block of ice these days... Last year we had a nice bite on sea herring like nov 8 to 10th, so Im guna keep going until I literally shame myself into retirement for the year with skunks. Every time I question not going, I think, Im guna regret not going in a month so get out there you vagina

For years I'd break ice all winter to fish the Thames or even locally for holdovers after the season was done, so I really didn't have a down season. Since the decline of the striper schoolie stock, those days are now behind me, dropped the boat off to get winterized yesterday. Time for fall and winter golf, will shrink wrap the boat in a week or two after I get it back from my mechanic.

Anyone fish the Thames last year, is that fishery still viable in the winter, boy back in the day 50 fish was a slow day and my largest was a 42 lber on 10 lb flurocarbon:).

goosefish 11-06-2013 01:28 PM

I play with little trout until about January.

This year however I'm ready to hit the ice.

Don't sell yourself short, I'm sure Jenn thinks it is an adequate trout.

The Dad Fisherman 11-06-2013 03:00 PM

Irish Trout.....

Headhunter 11-06-2013 03:27 PM

Back in about 2004 caught #30 up to dec 12, ended up fishing to about the 18th
