Info on hansom dive knife
 

Looking for a dive knife (for emergency use- cutting loose braid or or equipment leashes that could become an entanglement should I roll my sit on top kayak). I was looking at the hansom dive knife. A few questions: can it be hung from a two inch surf belt? Does it have a lock to keep it from gettingloose at the wrong time? In an emergency situation can it be accessed with one hand or do you need two hands? And is it easy to access when needed? Lastly how well does it hold up in the salt water environment? Would be interested in any reviews or opinions. Forgot how long is the blade and the total length of the blade and handle? Thanks

It's a nice knife for the $$$ but better options out there, dive shop is the best bet to see options, next time you're at CMS stop in at bobs sea and ski and look around.

Wenoka blunt tip dive knife is what I use for the surf. Locks into the plastic sheath and locks in place. Push the clips at both sides w one hand to release it. It can be attached to a dive belt w screws or zip ties. Costs about $40. Mine has held up well over 3 seasons of constant wear and I almost never rinse my gear.

Get the wenoka squeeze lock.

I have numerous ones for various belt setups and have been using them for many years. All work perfectly.

I have the hansom knife. I love their pliers.....however u hate the knife. The tab that locks the knife in the sheath gets jammed up with sand and salt to easily. Twice that I needed to use the knife. I could not get it out. Went back to my 3 year old wenoka.

The wenoka squeezee deep sea Knife. Make sure u get the titanium bladed one as it never ever rusts. The "stainless steel" ones still rust.
They come in 2 sizes. Usually find them online for $60-$75

yeah.... the wenoka squeeze is the way to go.

I have both sizes in titanium.
I bought the larger for the kayak about 6 or 7 years ago.

This year I bought the shorter one for my surf belt.

I think the shorter one makes the sense for both applications...I find the larger one overkill.

Pretty nice... as one side is serrated with a line cutter and the other is a straight edge.

wenoka, squeeze or big squeeze in titanium. buy once.

Not sure how i feel about the flat tip. I have been researching knifes for a while. Im a fan of a pointed knife

You wont be if you use it in the dark, try to put it in the sheath and poke yourself or cut your waders...flat tip is the way IMO. I have the UK knife on my belt. No problems at all, I like it.

X2. What do you need a point for while fishing? 90% of what you would normally use a knife for would be done with your pliers. The knife is for the heavy stuff when you need to cut yourself out. If they made a parachute knife with a blade that would last in the salt, that would be what I'd want.

I use the knife for various reason outside the surf. I currently have a skinner on my belt now and never cut, poked or stabbed myself. Rust is my enemy on my current knife otherwise i wouldnt be looking.

I have my knife mounted on the very back of my surfbelt...mostly because it is not a tool I use often. I think I may have used it once or twice this year. Problem I have is sheathing it...it can be awkward at that belt location, especially with a surftop while balancing on a rock. Sometimes the surftop material can overlap the belt. Those knives are crazy sharp and it would take near to no effort to drive it through a surftop, waders, or neoprene. A blunt tip is definitely the way to go with that mount location. If I had a front mount, or was mostly on dry land, I would probably lean to the versatility of a sharp tip.
