This event originally began three years ago as a way for the Connecticut Surfcasters to showcase and share the knowledge of its membership with the general public. In doing so we decided to have a “Demo Day” where in the club members would be provided an opportunity to demonstrate different surfcasting techniques, some well-known and some guarded secrets. Keeping with this tradition the following demos are scheduled for this year’s event.
Mike Mullen will be demonstrating basic wood-turning techniques. He will have a lathe set up and will show the basics of spinning a chunk of wood into a beautiful fish-fooling weapon. Paul Stamos will be tackling the use of eel skin plugs in the surf. He will cover skinning the eel, choosing an appropriate lure, applying and securing a skin and fishing a skin plug. This is a killer technique that has stood the test of time! Billy Delizio will be demonstrating the fine art of adding a marble “butt wrap” to a custom rod. He will be showing the entire process from start to finish to add a unique bit of flash and flare to make that new rod a truly custom work of art! Joe D’Agostino of JoeBaggs Bucktails will be demonstrating the craft of pouring and tying a bucktail jig. He will show each stage of the process from start to finish and will discuss the tips, tricks and safety concerns associated with pouring your own jigs. “Big” Tim Johnson will be discussing the fine art of smoking fish. Tim will have several different types of fish on hand and will address preparation, brining, seasoning, smoking and eventual enjoyment of a freshly smoked fillet. Official demo times will be posted as we get closer to the event. |
If anyone has some large eels and skin plugs, please feel free to bring them and we can rig them up.

BIG NEWS to announce regarding Saturday’s event. Craig Cantelmo of Van Staal has graciously donated a brand new Titanium Pliers set! These will be raffled off at the end of the day along with several other amazing donations from some of the commercial vendors in attendance. You will need to be in attendance to claim your prize so be sure to stay to the end.

I have an update to the vendor list and demo schedule for Saturday. Joe D'Agostino of JoeBaggs Bucktails will unfortunately be unable to attend as his wife is scheduled to be induced on Saturday at noon. We wish Joe an early congratulations on the arrival of his daughter.

Amazing show. Attendance was out of sight. Vendors had many attendees undivided attention. Club members demos had many interested people watching and learning. Thank you to all the S-B out of staters that took the ride. Hope you all had a great time and picked up some good deals.
Thanks to fellow S-B'r Chris Chef for his food donation and displaying Stormr & Century products. |
I had a great time and caught some awesome bargains and great quality products. I was really stoked to see the show and the volume through the door. As a member of the Jersey Shore Surfcasters, who put on NJ's Surfday, we are in year 9 of our show and have grown similarly. You guys are in for some really interesting growth over the next few years and I'll be there every year.
