There are a few out my way. One was by the big bridge the other day and there are a couple on chappy I heard. They are the skunks only predator out here...I hope we get covered with snowy owls. Lord knows we have enough skunks

I heard a story on NPR about the snowy owl, they're erupting all over the northeast. They tend to really like big open fields, I guess Logan Airport has a pretty big population becuase the runways replicate the artic tundra landscape their used to. And they're also adapted to 24hr sunlight during some of the season in the artic, so they really like hunting during the day. I havent seen one yet but they're supposed to be invading the cape at a pretty good clip. Hope you guys find em, take some pictures!

Belle Isle Marsh Reservation on the East Boston /Revere line had several around last weekend. Need binoculars. I don't know if it is the best spot, but it may be worth a shot.

ridler72 12-24-2013 01:49 PM

"Birding List Digest" does reports.....It's like "spot burning" only birds. :rotf2:
Select "Northeast" in the region box.

Here's a report for snowy owls a few days ago:

Date: 12/22/13 8:58 pm
From: Peter Trull <petrull...>
Subject: [MASSBIRD] Snowy Owls
Massbirders, I have posted a few snowy owl shots from nauset outer beach.
All are fairly distant, cropped shots (60 – 80 meters) with no disturbance
to the birds. A bit fuzzy but beautiful birds to observe, so you might enjoy
the images.

Saw a pair on Sunday. Driving into Salisbury SP. Flew low right across my windshield. Coming from the marsh. Pretty impressive.

About 3 years ago I hit one with my car. Bummed me out. When I do my late fall bike rides by the beach, I always look for groups of people with their binoculars/scopes. Someone will always offer me a look.

happened to me once too..... many years ago
it had captured a rodent and was sitting on the roadway
with it's winds spread open so it didn't look anything like an OWL
in fact, i thought it was a paper bag...
i ended up giving it to a taxidermist

Saw one down by Point Judith Lighthouse this morning.

No snowy owls today but did have a bald eagle fly about 20 yards above me. It landed about 75 yards down river where it ate it's breakfast.

You don't even have to go as far as the Refuge to see them, they have been all along the Turnpike for the last month or so, there was one by the airport today.
