Now that i am on first sift for the next few months, are there any classes or anyone giving lessons in jan and feb?

If so I'd love an invite! Just finished remodeling my man cave to accommodate a build bench. Plan on having the grand kids build their own,, after me 😄

Nice layout, Guppy. I would, however, strongly urge you to rock or plywood the wall behind the benches. It will prevent the inevitable punctures in the paper, and if you paint the wallcovering white, will provide more reflective light on your workspace. This will also make it easier to control dust around the upper shelves, which I assume is where you will be drying.... Dust and epoxy do not play together well....

I am not attempting to offer the class this winter do to hernia operation. I may consider doing one later , maybe early spring but not sure.

To Ross's point about dust...if you want to eliminate dust , the best thing to do is build a curing (drying) box to put the rods in while they spin during the curing process. Mine is 1 foot square by 12 feet long. It will easily handle two rods at once and could hold 5 if I change the way I spin them.

Thanks guys,,, I thought about the dust but just kept going,,, thinking about some kind of tent arrangement. Next phase is elec. ,,, plan on fluorescent strips under the lower shelf and probably another ceiling shop light.

making a drying box out of the rigid pink foam insulation makes it lightweight as well as a great insulator.

The best lighting set up is florescent bulbs (4 feet long) about 2 feet or so above the lathe bed. You want them the entire length of the lathe if possible. Light is very important. If you don't have bright lights you will get tired fast and you will make little mistakes that will be noticeable when you do have the rod in daylight.

Your gonna want more light than that! Use that kind of fluorescent light but use 3 X4 footers so you have bright light the entire length of the rod you are building.

It's the iPhone camera,,, There is plenty of light plus I've got one of those swing out lighted magnifier mounted there,,,, plus if the rods come out real ugly I'll have an excuse,,, :devil2:
