What's a good jigging reel for the surfcaster
I've been looking at some of the new toys out there. Lots of nice stuff. What do you think are the good ones. Plus why. Then what are some of the weaknesses?Lot's of use destroy gear every year looking for the one reel that does what we want.:fishin:

After burning through my Stella 10K, every year the gear set is wiped third overhaul from Shimano. This year I'm trying the new Diawa ISLA 7000H. We'll see how it holds up.

How about for both. There are loads of anglers that can't afford to experiment. jigging from the surf ie the ditch wasque,Quonnt,or about any fast moving current has different challenges but jigging is jigging. This is to give food for thought for many that read from the sidelines

Got you! I prefer something with a quick pick up. As opposed to plugging I prefer the slower retrieve.

I was talkin to an old ditch troll the other day and he still loves his Abu 7000 and his Penn 706.Both have loads of mileage on them.
My old emblem pro is still going and my 7000 is on its 3rd rebuild. The old red one. |

Any experience with this one? RA was pushing it over on SOL. Expensive but fast retrieve, optional gearing, looks plenty strong, and weighs 10-12oz less than a comparable spinner.

I picked up a Torque 5 spinner at the end of last season. Going to try and kill it this year.
Had to send my Stella 10k in for service after a couple of months of heavy jigging. It was supposed to still be under warranty but they still soaked me the $30 plus shipping both ways. I love the reel but think it might become plugging only. Especially since Shimano's planned obsolescence has just about taken effect. |

I just picked up a torque 7 for ditch jigging. Seems like it will be a beast and I can't wait to put it through it's paces. The 7 is too heavy for all around work, but I am sure the 5 could be a grest hybrid reel.
