North Shore Guys

Is anyone catching yet from shore? I'm starting to get itchy and waiting for the water to warm up may take til June.

nightfighter 05-07-2014 07:39 PM

Birds were busy in Marblehead harbor as I came across causeway after work at 7:30pm tonight. Couldn't make out what they were on, but is a good sign it is finally starting to turn. No local reports to pass along.

Rockport24 05-08-2014 09:16 AM

haven't heard anything - I usually start mother's day weekend every year, but life is going to postpone me until the following week, which may be when things start to get going here anyway

The Dad Fisherman 05-08-2014 09:24 AM

Haven't been out yet....haven't heard anything from the usual suspects around here either as to anything happening yet.

I've seen some effort, but haven't heard of catches.

The bite in RI was great a couple of weeks ago, though. They are en route

Fly Rod 05-08-2014 10:51 AM

it's 11:45AM ...just came back from watching 3 fly fishermen fishing the Annisquam behind Nichols Candy off of rt.128....watched for 1/2 hr., no fish being caught on out going tide.....:)

Speedy Too 05-08-2014 12:04 PM

Heard today from a lobster guy that the Macs are thick outside the harbor?

Rockport24 05-08-2014 01:08 PM

Nice!

Lots of feed in and around the harbor here. This weekends forecast should warm things up just enough to start the season rolling.

Squibby17 05-09-2014 09:22 PM

Thanks for the update fellas. I'm back on the North Shore now (bought a house) hoping to pick up where I left off a few years back.

american spirit 05-10-2014 06:43 AM

thanks guys. maybe it will turn up in a week or two when the water hits 50. i think its at 46/47 now.

Jack, maybe I'm crazy but the bite, as far as I know, has sucked in RI. Few schoolies in Wickford, West Wall and EG Bay but nothing to get hot and bothered about.
I have been from Warwick Cove to Omega Dam in Seekonk, to Potters Cove on Prudence and Bristol Harbor and, although we found pogies, we haven't found any decent bass yet.

Sorry to disagree

N.ShoreFisher 05-10-2014 08:07 AM

seen a few pics of friends catching in Boston Harbor, nothing crazy, but a few keepers w/lice. Gonna head out in the next few nights to reacquaint myself with my gear and check out a few haunts to see what the winter did to them.

doc 05-10-2014 03:54 PM

...i will start in earnest next week...

Sorry for the confusion Paul. I meant the schoolie bite. I was down there for one evening, my buddy got a dozen or so in an hour and a half and I caught one (with around half a dozen dropped! Argh!). Qualified as a great bite for me after a long winter!! I have no idea what the action is like on fish of decent size.

piemma 05-11-2014 03:17 AM

Not a problem Jack. Just didn't want a bunch of guys driving down and finding nothing. I'm headed out now. I'll post a report later today.

Fly Rod 05-11-2014 09:31 AM

report from a few commercial guys say no mac's around gloucester at this time

nightfighter 05-11-2014 10:58 AM

When I can see the clouds of pollen blowing by like today, it is a good bet the season is ready to open. Pine trees are really unloading.... Plan is to uncover the boat this week. Rebuild tilt motor seals and new sending gauge in fuel tank.

Rockport24 05-12-2014 11:16 AM

saw a positive report this morning - Let's hope this warm weather is going to get things going - I'll head out for the first time this weekend.

Fly Rod 05-13-2014 06:40 AM

Mac's have been reported outside the Gloucester breakwater.....small stripers being taken in the Annisquam River...what a difference a day makes

the "macks are just outside the....________"(fill in the blank) has been around for years. I'm waiting for that fabled school to actually show up someday:jump1:

Rockport24 05-14-2014 09:59 AM

Maybe - but I know Fly Rod is in that area

The Dad Fisherman 05-14-2014 01:00 PM

That "fabled" school shows up in our neck of the woods every year

Rockport24 05-14-2014 01:49 PM

oh yeah just noticed you are in CT - you guys get pogies, we get macks..

Fly Rod 05-14-2014 03:30 PM

for the past several years Mac's have been here for most of the summer....problem is to be successful most of the time U need a boat.... :) normally around here, "Mother's Day is Striper Day." ...now we just need to find the cows....check the farm lands, they may be grazing.LOL :)

N.ShoreFisher 05-14-2014 04:53 PM

I was up in Gloucester wetting a line last night. Tons of bait in the water, lots of macs....no stripers. :(

Fly Rod 05-15-2014 07:27 AM

coffee shop talk this morning...very avid striper fisherman fishing from boat has been catching small stripers.

Always best around here to get Mac's at first light and troll till ya get a hit if any at all in 15 feet of water...stop and fish if ya get a cow...MOO!...:)
