Canal
Planning my first canal trip next w/e. Any suggestions on lures. I mainly flyfish but, I am finishing up a 1204F rod. I have some plugs and jigs, rind... what weight jigs will I need up to? Also how is night vs. day fishing this time of year, will be doing both anyways.
Thanks, Brian |
Fishin is very slow. Hopefully it will break loose soon. Plugs and jigs are fine. Jigs will run from 2oz to 4oz depending on the current. Good luck. We have had no luck so far. Saw one short caught in two days.

Wow -- are we seeing a slow beginning to this season due to the cold winter & spring, or are we experiencing the ever-worsening state of the fishery. It's been tough out there.

So here's an interesting question. How can you absolutely crush fish one morning and get nothing the next morning at the same place?
Chris and I had one of the best days in years Thursday. Friday, same place, same bait, marking lots and lots of huge fish and nothing. Live lining Pogies for 5 hours..... nothing. We fished 8 different spot.....nothing. The only difference was rain on Thursday and clear and NW wind on Friday. I guess the pressure may have something to do with it but I cannot think it would be that dramatic a difference. Every time I think I have this thing figured out, I find out I don't. |
Paul I read some scientific study about the effects of barometric pressure on fish and this guy concluded that the effect is nil. He claimed that the lack of fish activity had more to do with light conditions. High pressure is usually associated with bright clear skies, while lows are more often cloudy or overcast. Naturally, we associate better fishing with low pressure systems.

Bingo! I believe you are correct as it was bright and fairly sunny yesterday. One of my friends here on the board was fishing in the same area only in the dark and he had 7 decent fish so, there you go.
Looks like it's time to go to the 0' dark 30 hours. |
