Navy ships
Anyone see Navy ships off Marshfield I counted 10, just anchored out there not moving just sitting there weird
|
They came through the canal around 4:30. I was finishing a conference call at the lot behind Friendly's. There were a bunch of old timers taking video and pictures. Must have been vets from when those ships saw action.

Didn't see the ships that you guys are talking about. But have in the past.
If your talking 10 of these, they were most likely the small boats about 90 feet or so that the midshipmen at Annapolis use. They frequently cruise up this way in numbers from 6 to 10. |
The US Navy no longer has enough ships to put 10 in one place at one time away from a major port.

If those are the boats then they are Yard Patrol YP boats. John is correct they are used primarily for training. I did two days training on one out of Newport RI to the Submarine base in Groton CT. Training was Radar Navigation and Piloting. Most memorable part was getting mooned :cens: by a couple of lobstermen off beavertail. :rotf2: |

Those Yard Patrol craft come through the Canal several times every summer.

If you really want to find out whats going on with them, put a red light in your bedroom window. If they are Navy someone from the ship will show up.

Headed back south today

They put a different guidance package on those missiles that resolves some of the issues with (re)using Tomahawk as an anti-ship missile.
Still has limitations (ships moving @ 30 knots can travel far when it takes a missile an hour to get there) but it puts a temporary tool back in place for US Navy ships that can't do what US Navy ships are supposed to do, reach out and break other ships. USN Cruisers and Destroyers have hardly any Anti-Surface Warfare capabilities today as they have focused on Air Defense and Land Attack for the past 20 years. Good article on this missile: http://www.informationdissemination....n-of-tasm.html BTW - Want a good Woody - check out the videos on the Navy's railgun |
