Markup on new boats
Anyone know how much markup there is on a new boat? Is it like buying a car where you can negotiate down, etc? I'd imagine they have a quite a bit of room to move.

You're not gonna like this but, IMO, you shouldn't consider a new boat. You can get great deals on slightly used boats and don't have to deal with immediate depreciation. Average first year depreciation on resale is 20%. So if you pay $30K you lost $6K as soon as you splash it.

Yah, figured that but I don't want anyone else's headaches. This would be the boat I would have for a long time so I'm focussed on getting the best deal I can on new. I've got them down to 8% below sticker with a Lowrance HDS10 and VHF thrown in for $0.

Check out The Hull Truth. Lots of info on the Naut 25 comparing it to a Sea Hunt 25 and Cape Horn.

Beauty but out of my league price wise. Got to be $60 to$70K without power. Six figures with twin 250 Yami 4 strokes.

yes I was told they like to make between 15-18% after neg. I negotiated down about 10% off list price when I bought mine. Also make them throw in all the little things. Cooler, storage, whatever little add ons they offer.

To paraphrase from the "National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation", where Clark Griswald heads back to the blackjack table with a boatload of money, and the dealer says to him: "I'll tell you what, why don't you give me half the money you were going to spend on a boat, we go out back, and I kick you in the nuts and call it even?" Good luck, hope you get the boat you want! |
