SANTIAGO, Chile, July 2 — A huge, gelatinous sea creature found washed up on Chile’s coast has stumped scientists, who have sent samples to a specialist in France for help in identifying the mystery specimen. The blob was mistaken for a beached whale when first reported last week, but experts who went to see it said the 40-foot-long mass of decomposing lumpy gray flesh apparently was an invertebrate. that ocean looks fishy though!

A guy from the Smithsonian still thinks its a piece of whale blubber, while some others think it could be a giant octopus.

I think its a bit large for a bacteria specimen.

But have we heard from Notaro... maybe the bacteria mutated him into some creature and he migrated south.

July 8 — Scientists around the globe were waiting to get their hands on samples from a huge sea specimen found on Chile’s coast, but already some were discounting the possibility it could be the remains of a giant octopus. “From the photos I’ve seen, I’ve little doubt that it is going to turn out to be from a whale, but maybe I’ll be surprised,” Sidney Pierce, the biology department chair at the University of South Florida, told MSNBC.com. they need our suggestions
