What a season......

Late launch due to maintenance/upgrades on boat
Lost time fighting battery and oil gremlins.
Not finding fish in local honey holes. (need to go further south and outside)
Some days not finding bait.
And yesterday I had a work mishap....Trip to the ER. Six stitches in right ring finger surrounding lower knuckle. Could have been much worse, but besides the discomfort and how it is going to limit using it for work, I cant hold a rod...... Figure another week before I can use it.
I figure each fish I have actually boated this year cost $800 a piece..... Hoping for a great second half of the year.

Sounds like somebody needs a hug....
Hope things turn around for you bud!

At least you haven't had to fill the tank much or at all yet.......I just added up my receipts and hit the $2K mark for gas this year.

Hope your season turns around quickly.....

PaulS 07-22-2014 06:45 AM

That sucks about the hand. Hopefully the fishing looks up for you. Try that cove near where your boat is docked :)

Slipknot 07-22-2014 07:35 AM

I'm sure things will get better
I guess that's the price we pay
too bad about the digit, it's risky business
better luck next time

Guppy 07-22-2014 07:45 AM

Every now and then I hear about a seasoned guy just about loosing a finger,,, goes to show can happen to anybody,,,, I hope your mind wasn't on the boat:smash:
Doc: Take 3 days of fishing and call me in the morning

BE CAREFUL

Fly Rod 07-22-2014 07:49 AM

striped bass fishing around this area is not up to par...the numbers to the auction R not impressive....some commercial boaters R bailey paying their fuel bills and add the dockage adds up to ...Terrible

I was screwing a mending plate to the back side of a stringer. Lost hold of it and it started spinning at the speed of the impact driver....

Redsoxticket 07-22-2014 11:58 AM

Ouch, beware of the bacteria in the water that could enter the wound.

Ouch thats much worse than hitting your head with a hammer . Try splinting it then you may be able to fish with 1 finger stick straight out . At least you wont be giving everyone the finger ( 2nd digit ) .

take care of yourself .

Rockport24 07-22-2014 03:06 PM

sorry to hear Ross, hope you get well soon and I sure as hell hope the fishing picks up. Although I have barely been out myself..

Sea Dangles 07-22-2014 05:51 PM

$800 per fish sounds about right

ProfessorM 07-22-2014 06:18 PM

Sorry Ross. But if it makes you feel any better I have not even put my boat in the water yet. I am battling a tick illness that has had me miss 2 weeks of work now and I am on a super anti biotic with great side effects and I can't go in the sun. I put 15 gallons of gas in the boat 4 weeks ago and now it is probably stale so I will drain it and put in my truck and start over with fresh gas I guess if I ever get the thing in the water. My comm season has been a total bust so far.

Paul, mine will heal. I was lucky and it will be a minor inconvenience in comparison. I don't envy your battle. THAT sucks. Much worse than my deal. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery. (I was just in a bitchy mood and the block was wearing off when I posted...)

Funny how we take so much for granted, especially our health. Those of us in our late fifties and older are realizing things that we don't want to face or accept. You young guys better start living and appreciating every day. It can be taken away in a second.......

nightfighter 07-22-2014 07:24 PM

But, you get no sympathy over 15 gallons of fuel......

Finaddict 07-22-2014 07:32 PM

Ross - Sorry about your finger ... hope it heals soon and you can enjoy the rest of the summer ... or at least be ready for the fall ...

Paul ... so sorry to hear ... hope that clears soon as well ...

... fingers crossed for you both.

LOL.
Yeah getting old and starting to realize your limitations is a real reality slap that I am starting to hate.

Come on you bunch of big babies! I had a 4 stents, a major MI, quad bypass and cancer and I'm still fishing 100 + nights a year in the boat and in the surf.:jump1:

RickBomba 07-23-2014 07:43 AM

Don't invite me fishing Ross. I think you, Paul, and I should stay far away from each other for a while.

Sheesh!

Got Stripers 07-23-2014 08:18 AM

Sorry to hear and I feel your pain, seems like even loosing a few weeks at our age is precious time lost. I severely sprained my wrist and am told no use for two weeks, but with the boat back in the shop, I guess it could be worse. I'm bummed that the $160 I paid to enter a charity golf outing at Atlantic CC this weekend is forfeit and I'm scrambling to find my group an A player to sub.

I haven't even been out this year yet. Between the 2 big Audits at work, Work around the house and Scouts....just havent had the time.

Audits are over this week, got back from DC with the scouts last weekend...so hopefully I can squeeze in a little "Me" time now.

Thanks. I credit God. After I was diagnosed with cancer, I started praying and it worked.
