Havahart Trapped Skunk

Any good suggestions on how to release without getting sprayed?

Cardboard boxes taped together to form a shield with cutouts for hands and viewing.

Put a blanket over it Phil. You can still grab the handle and open the door, put in woods and run..........

Watching youTube now! haha they make it seem so easy

PaulS 07-23-2014 06:52 AM

I was going to ask you to film it for us.

Good luck.

I guess if you don't want to know what is living under your deck, you shouldn't set traps! Let a baby possum go yesterday and today baby skunk.

Used my harpoon pole to get the trap out from under flowers, placed a large towel over trap, & moved trap to release point way back in property. Next step is the fun one: open & prop door then RUN!

So let me get this straight. You pi$$ it off then release it in your yard?

Ohh man, thats one of my fears!!! I have a ground hog problem and have been trying to trap them. I put a trail cam out just to see whats going on........sure enough a skunk wondering around near the trap..... The blanket thing seems to be the right idea.

saltyric 07-23-2014 07:24 AM

by the way, i put a trail cam out in my back yard just to see whats around.....skunk, possum, raccoon, rabbit, turkey, ground hog, and a fox.....and I dont really too close to the woods!

PRBuzz 07-23-2014 07:29 AM

While leaving towel in place, just reached over and opened door. Tried to use an S-hook to hold open as seen in a video but no go. Found a piece of cinder block that was about the right height, reopened door and placed block to hold door open. Moved WAY back and the the little sucker walked right out, no spraying. WHEW

I have an old cooler that fits the trap perfectly and do hold auditions for the Olympic Steel Cage Diving team every so often. So far nothing has passed the qualifying test. ;)

Sheet or blanket over the trap. Works the same way covering the eyes on a fish to keep it calm. Use marshmallows for skunk bait. I have never done a live release... Always gave the old float test first..... Make sure you have enough water depth. My brother didn't.... Glad I missed that one. Turned into a real chitshow.

get a pellet gun and put it out of it's misery - seems easier than the cement shoes, no?

Ya, Rocky will roll over in his grave if you stink the place up :devil2:

Swimmer 07-23-2014 04:47 PM

Buzz I have trapped many of them. Take a large blue tarp with a hole in the center. Use a paint pole extention, 12'er and pick up the trap and drop it in a barrell filled with watet. It might spray, might not. Smell will go away in a few days if it does spray. Skunk will perish quietly. Take dead skunk out of water and into plastic bag, then place in trash.

skunks typically cannot spray unless they are able to raise their tail up high

tysdad115 07-23-2014 05:43 PM

I could bring a more permanent solution over ..3200fps hollow point. No more skunk.

true tight quarters inside the trap, it is once it walked out that I had a worry. Turns out piece of cake to release a young one and hoping I never get an adult.

Swimmer 07-23-2014 06:11 PM

Has to be looking at you to spray

they hate having their tunnels flooded with water
until there's mud 2 inches deep in there making walking
and crawling a nite mare... after that

they leave to find a "NEW" den
