Since the boat I have had a year of 1st there was Block island and now 1st shark trip on my own .borrowed 2 rods and reels made my own leaders got some chum and headed to the claw with 2 other friends from westport
NW was blowing more than 5-10 slow ride out Get to the claw map out our drift set out the chum and rods . An hour later 1st balloon start's bouncing stops starts again but no line going out look up again now the balloon is slowly traveling right to left take out the slack something is there reel to the boat its a Mako pup not hooked just holding the bait lets go swims off 20 min later same deal this time a little bigger mako pup this time he gets a pitch bait 9\0 hook on my VS 275 perfect (mistake no wire had no small stuff) cuts the line 20 seconds into it . pull up the chum head back to do a 2nd drift 2hrs later where tight bigger mako easily a keeper but like the other 2 swims to the boat he a solid hook Ive got the wire in my had walking him like a dog waiting for my Buddy to put some glove on and take over ( saying to myself 300lb wire leader 100LB braid this cats in the bag) next thing I know he decides to bolt and cuts off on the engine .. we drift another 3 hours disgusted in our defeat 1 photo proof of our day not one blue shark was expecting them not 3 Makos and a lot of lessons learned |

Nice job Wayne! One of my co workers and his crew got a 400 lb Mako over the weekend, somewhere in CCB. Ill see if I can get some pics today and post them.

no way we were ready for a 400lb anything , its funny how they just come to the boat lesson learned |
sharking is tons of fun. we played with blue dogs yesterday - makos Thursday. personally I wouldnt pull up the chum and redrift, just setup further from the spot you want to drift and make 1 long drift. and don't forget the cable in addition to your wire - it makes a difference when the fish start getting bigger
