Shore Bonefish Action

Bones being caught from shore everyday in the derby. Great sign.

bassballer 09-20-2014 08:13 AM

Bonito ;)

rphud 09-20-2014 06:03 PM

KILLING ME!!!!!!!!

Even a shore fly rod bone on the board. Me thinks that is the first in quite a while. I dropped two five years ago and the derby ended with none on the board.

Your turn Frank. Unless, of course I sneak on over for a shot (very soon).

Shore Bonito off the bucket list. Guy I fished with got 3 today. Gorgeous fish. Might bring one home tomorrow should I be lucky enough again.

Believe me, I will be giving it my best shot everyday. Have a dream of catching all four species again one day.

Thanks. It's funny. A friend of mine got a little irked today when he couldn't reach some busting bluefish. This is even though he caught his first bonito and first albie from shore earlier. I told him not to be so freaking greedy! He wanted that shore slam and got the two tough ones out of the way pretty early. We joked about heading down to a place where we were pretty much guaranteed a 8" snapper and possibly short bass, but that would be the real cheap way to do it and since I was driving it wasn't happening even if he was serious. :rotf2:

I wasn't really concerned with the slam today. It was nice to get into some funny fish that weren't nearly as finicky as they have been the last few weeks. Law of averages I guess. Maybe weather related? They are still a pain in the ass though. ;)

You need my teaser rigs. Last time I bothered counting the first 17 of 25 albies I caught a few years ago was on a teaser.

I got an 8 lb albie today at the Cape Poge gut from shore... my first shore albie... only 8 lbs so I did not keep it... got it on a Hogy epoxy

rickhern 10-01-2014 09:51 PM

Well done, many showing over there?

blondterror 10-01-2014 10:13 PM

its was sporadic... but the conditions were tough with lots of wind and hard rain from 2-4 pm today... my takes were along the edge of the fast water

ProfessorM 10-02-2014 09:06 AM

Nice Chris. Been some good fishing for them directly North across the pond this week too if you can get out. Unfortunately I could not.

Not sure what your teaser rigs consist of, but yesterday if we had any type of fly in front of our metal they wouldn't take it. First time I've seen that. Only very small metal of certain colors were working. Maybe a mini fly would have?

Bonito seem to be much less finicky than Albies from what I've seen in my short funny fish career. Got one on a 1 oz epoxy y'day but Albies were not interested even though they were all over in the early AM.

Did I mention these fish are a pain in the ass? Fun as all hell tho.

Yes, congrats. Can't catch those Alberts on anything but small stuff so far.

That is an interesting spot. Conventional wisdom would dictate that it would fish best on a dropping tide as bait gets funneled thru the gut, but we have always done MUCH better on the incoming.

Going to be tough throwing those Bones back after last night's dinner. Truly good eating. Went simple and seared it on the griddle with salt, pepper, oregano, and olive oil.
