Yes - thought of just this many times ;)

Someone somewhere and I forget who - did this on the inside of their Bronco ten years back

i did that in a ford van but it was wide enough
to have it go across the van instead of lengthwise.

It made it so you could have storage in front of the bed,
under the Bed and still be able to go from the front seat
to sleep mode in back without exiting the vehicle for goin cross country.

My neighbor is making a drawer for my truck right now. Not as elaborate as that though. I like the skate board bearings for the rails, thats a really cool idea.

banana boxes are easier if you design it on their measurements
then you have removable drawers that can be taken else where
and they are free and lightweight strong enough to carry 40 Lbs.
