kayak - sit in? OR sit on top?
I'm looking at small kayaks for Bradley, for Christmas.
For Grandma's lake house and the local res. What's better, a sit in or sit on top? I would think sit in is more stable? (lower center of gravity) how about this one from #^^^^&s? http://www.#^^^^&ssportinggoods.com/pr...826&cadevice=c or this one http://www.amazon.com/Sun-Dolphin-Ba...s=sit+in+kayak |
Sit on top is much safer.

I have a small sit in. I find it nerve wracking. If you roll it you can get stuck inside, if you swamp it you are not getting back in.
I think a sit on top is a safer option, particularly for a kid. |
ok thanks, anything against these inexpensive models?

For Bradley amd knowing Bradley start him off with one of the cheaper sit on top, i find they are easier to fish from as well as recover from if you do roll over or dump it.

Ocean State Job Lot usually has some as well at similar costs.
Not sure I like the look of that second one with the squared off back and 6' seems a bit short. |
Don't get the squared off back one. As I understand it, they have a tendency to swamp easier once the water starts flowing over the stern. I would also recommend at least an 8-10' kayak. Otherwise he'll be spending all his paddling time correcting his track line. It'll get frustrating for him and he'll probably use it less.

Sit ons are easier to get back into if you fall out...

sit on top, because... sit in kayaks are sinks...
ocean state job lot and if you can, go on senior citizens day to get their discount. You'll have to bring an old guy with you :) |

Sit on top. Way fewer things to keep trak of. don't have to worry about gettin out-of when you flip it and you will flip it.
