Spinning gear for casting to BFs
With the price of gas where it is and should be most of next year, I'm looking to do some running and gunning.
What should I budget form a stand up spinning tuna combo spooled. I'm looking middle of the road. Not spending a grand on the reel. Was considering the VS 275s that were half price but not sure if there's more appropriate for less money, etc. Want something that I can do other things with too, sharking, etc. |
275 is a great spinner for tuna and has taken many fish, spend less and you will regret it. For sharking I would look for conventional gear. VS also has price friendly rods to pair with the 275. 360tuna.com will give you some ideas and options to consider.

Thanks Dangles. I have to wait for the admin to authorize my logon before I can dig on 360 but I checked out the VS stuff. Looks like I can get a couple of VJS70-325 Spinning Jig rods, each with a VS275 for under $1500 total. Still have to spool them.
I can't swing putting riggers on and buying gear for trolling I'm thinking a rod that will do a decent job at both is my best bet since I'm a complete newbe to the Tuna game. How often to you have to jig versus find em on top? |
The only issue I have w/ the vs 275 is the no bail thing - what happens when u hook up before you get the line on the roller. I kind of like and need my fingers

Good point. As long as I don't loose a middle finger, I'm good. I wouldn't be able to dive the expressway anymore.

Never had one eat before reeling, jigging or top water.
If I do,that would be a story Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
This tuna was taken with a VS spinning rod.

Awesome. Is that a 206 or 236 key largo?

The VM 275 is bailed and has the same internals as the regular 275 - and costs a few hundred less. It's not sealed like the surf reel, but that shouldn't be a factor.
I've had the 7' VS jig rods since they first came out - they are awesome. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |

Ditto, I love it. Put radar, outriggers, autopilot on it and fish it everywhere.
