Shiner hooks
What are you using and why?
|
I use # 4 Gamagatsu live bait ( they are a salt water hook) they have short shank ,thick shank and large ringed eye .... which make it easy to tie a palomer knot with stiff fingers and old eyes.. because I mainly use live smelt for rainbow trout and white perch, this hook is good for either..I used to use #6 Gamagatsu octopus style but I actually straightened 2 hooks on large ( lakes region NH) trout .. it was enough for me to make the change...

Been using Eagle Claw 1/0 Kahle hooks for shiners last few years. 50packs are pretty cheap and seem to get less deep hooks on the kahle style.

i remember staring at a straightened out hook for what seemed like forever in disbelief but of course it was an eagle claw light gauge that allowed my root-beer sluggo to sink or "glide" just right. |
