wtb allstar 1088
 

looking for a 9 fter spinning set up and I was told to put out some feelers to see if any you guys might have one hanging around. any leads would be great. thanks scott

Scott asked me for some ideas on a 9 foot rod. The 1088 is the one I was pointed towards in the early 2000s, and is all I personally have experience with. It has been a great all around choice for me from the shore. If you have other suggestions that won't break the bank, post them up! He's looking for something that will handle up to 2 or 3 max.

Ross, thought you had the Batson 1088 not all star. Much different rod.

I sold my all star 1088 years ago because I really favor the lami 1081m. No regrets.

I do. Batson Rainshadow 1088 SW blank that I got from Capesams' private stash. I was a noob, and he said "this is all you will ever need for a 9 footer." Proved to be right. Trying to find those are much harder than the All Star. I bought your All Star.... Sold it just a couple years ago to help get an All Star 1208 made up. Also still have an All Star 1265-2 aka the Spanish Buster.

All star 1088 is a bit on the heavy side and action too fast for me. Lami is more moderate. Happy in 3/4 oz to just under 3. Plenty of power in rocks but not too heavy for sand. All that said, I fish my 10 ft lamis almost all the time. A benefit of the lami is you can get it wrapped to your liking (rather than someone else's 1088) and get warranty. If I could have 1 rod it would be 1201m, if I could have 2 I'd add 1201L, the thirdly would be 1081m.

well I borrowed ross's rainshadow 1088 to see how it feels so I have some idea what I want. When I compare my 8ft ben dorr and the 1088 it is a big difference. my 8ft is just to light at the 2 0z limit and ross's is just to heavy. So now I need to find something in the middle. anyone have a good recommendation? also if you live anywhere near the Haverhill area I don't mind taking a small trip to check your set ups. I like to have hands on. thanks scott

Which Rainshadow blank was it? SU or SW. Makes a very big difference.

Lamiglas 1081m. Also, 1201L can be cut to get you closer to 9' and it would fit that range.

I have an all star 1085 that fits the bill perfectly and I love it. Might be a tough find though. Strong, but very light. Much less of a beef stick than an all star or su 1088.

The Rainshadow SU 1088 was similar to the USA Allstar 1088. The SW was a bit more like a Lami GSB 108 1M, but not exactly. It was somewhat slower and bent further back toward the butt. The SUs were fast and stiff starting much closer to the tip than the butt. I'm a fan of the GSB Lamis and the SW Rainshadows. The USA Allstars 1088 and 1208 always seemed a bit stiff / fast for me. However, although I couldn't get used to them, I've seem Afterhours Don and others throw with them easily and VERY well. Of course... they are better at casting and fishing than I... it's true. They're younger too. If you can find an original Rainshadow 1 piece 1088 (full 9' length) it's a very nice blank. The GSB L and M are also VERY nice as mentioned above.

Personally, I never liked the sw Batson series. Always felt kind of dead to me.

I like my SW 1088... :-) It's wrapped conventional.

does anyone know anything about a lami Inf9mhs local shop will sell me one factory wrapped for $280

1088 is a great stick, but I agree with Clogston. Would take my 1201m all day long.

love the 1088's and 1208's. seen the bossman catch more than a few stripers on his allstar 1088 with a 6500 on it, eels and plugs. these rods are fast and stiff and not everyone's cup of tea.

And we was correct - the 9' Batson 1088 was the best all around do most anything 9' stick around in its day.

Great All Around Rod! Brig Grin on my face thinking about that Batson :bl: - So while I may love my 1201m a little more, if a 9 was all I could use I'd stick with that ;)
